Hi. Thanks for the add. I have a 13 year old cat who just went on insulin yesterday. I now have the three biggies covered as far as senior cat issues go-hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. I have 8 and 4 of them are 12+, so its like a kitty rest home around here. LOL
Anyway, Ive been dealing with the thyroid/kidney issues aehile but insulin dependent diabetes is a new one for me. So I'm looking forward to learning something here.

You can post any specific questions you have on the main forum Feline Health. There are also forums for each type of insulin. You can post there for dosing advise or other questions. There are stickies at the top of those forums with a lot of good info.
 
Welcome! I have 7, but so far only two of them are seniors. One diabetic (now off insulin) and one ckd.
 
Only eight! We had nine and a dog. Of all the stupid things people would bring up at Christmas and Thanksgiving this was a major source of humor for our family. One Thanksgiving I asked if it was too late to go to KFC. You're going to learn a lot here and tolerance comes naturally to all of us. Welcome home!

Only 8 cats, but I do also have 4 dogs (1 who is ancient), 3 fishtanks, and a parakeet. Quite the zoo here. I am always cleaning up after, feeding, or medicating somebody. But i get a lot of enjoyment from them too. So far, insulin shots have been going ok. Mama has had diabetes awhile, but she also had a mouth tumor remived at the time of diagnosis so we were managing with diet until we knew whether she had cancer. Fortunately she did not and recently her sugar has been out of control. She presented at the vet with BG of 450 along with sugar/protein in the urine. She is on 2 units of prozinc twice a day. I've just given her her 3rd shot. Its been ok. She mostly doesnt notice as long as I stay calm. She already acts like she's feeling better. I need to get the supplies stocked back up to test her sugar though, at home. I do have honey on hand. She is supposed to have a curve done in a month.

LOL! No foster children. 3 biological, but theyre grown. I am no saint, for sure. Ive just aquired a lot of animals over the years and age is catching up to them. The parakeet was my daughters and he was passed to me when she left for college. One of the 12 year old cats is hers too. She fostered her, adopted her, and brought her home while she is in Prague this semester.
 
Hey, no cheating! The rest of us are Saints, (except for that one guy who thinks his cookies are better than mine, Jeff something or other)

Ooops! Not Jeff, he is a Saint. I meant that other trouble maker from California who shall remain nameless (jt and trouble).
I just made a donation so I don't feel bad anymore.
