Hello again!
It is very nice to be here again, with good news that my cat remained remitted, with control diet.
But, for a while, like 1-2 month ago he starts to vomit and I cannot identify the reason, I did not change the type of food. Also he lost some kilograms in the last years, otherwise he is happy, still playing even he is quite old.
We met an appointment with his vet, but will be on 25 of May.
Do you have any idea what could it be and how could I improve his situation, at least until met his vet?

Thank you a lot,
Regards,
Mihaela

Hi Mihaela

Great news that your kitty has stayed in remission; better again that he is playful and happy.

Ask your vet to run a very comprehensive blood panel, and also check for pancreatitis and B12/folate levels. It might be worth bringing in a stool sample with you to your appointment to get that checked, too.

In the meantime here is a very helpful page about how to help cats with nausea and vomiting problems.

Perhaps you could give your vet a call to ask whether it might be possible to use any of the treatments mentioned on that page. If it's a stomach acid issue, simple things you can try are:

1. elevate the food and water bowls so that your kitty won't have to bend down to eat.

2. feed smaller, more frequent meals (e.g. every 3 hours) so that your kitty will always have a little something in his tummy and prevent stomach acid build-up. A timed feeder (e.g Petsafe 5) is very helpful.

I am assuming that the vomiting is intermittent at the moment. If the vomiting gets more frequent I suggest pushing for an earlier appointment with the vet. It may be worth asking them to notify you if someone else cancels an appointment; you might get in to see them sooner that way. If your kitty goes off his food then you need to ask for an emergency appointment.

With an eating issue in play, be sure to regularly test your kitty's urine for ketones as an extra safety precaution. (For info: trace ketones = phone vet for advice on how to proceed; anything higher than trace ketones = seek immediate treatment from a vet).

It might also be worthwhile to have a thyroid test done, as vomiting and weight loss can be a symptom of hyperthyroidism. My vet had to request this separately as it's a test not typically included with your standard senior blood work panel.

Hopefully you can get things sorted out!

Thank you for your posts! I will try to do the tests to another vet available and communicate with cat vet after this, at least I will have more info and accelerate
things. I keep you updated, thank you for your support!

Good new as he stopped vomiting.
We went to a vet and do some blood test and the results are ok, with slight variation vs standard:
-Gpt/alat 95, max 83, higher
-Got/asat 31, max 78 ok
-bilirubine 1.06, max 0.5, higher
-urea 83.7, max 82, slightly higher
-creatinina 1.18, max 1.8 ok
-amylase total 642, max 1445 ok
We received tratament with bilicol and no spa.

Hi,

My cat begin to vomit again, like a clear liquid, drink water a little more but does not have high BG, just 78.
Hardly eating...and white teguments, he is
pink usually.
His vet is in vacation, we have the appointment on 25, and is hard to find another good doctor.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Ok. White gums could be a sign of anemia. This could be due to a lot of things....
I really don't want to be alarming, this is maybe due to the treatment you gave to him recently, but that could also be due to an internal bleeding.
If he were my cat, I would call the nearest vet immediately to take advise.

I agree with Sophie here; I think it is important that you get him to a vet, as his pale gums (white tegument) would appear to be an indicator of either anemia or dehydration. If you cannot get him to hold water in his stomach, he probably will need some IV fluids to hydrate his body IF his vomiting continues to be a problem. I, too, do not wish to alarm you; however, if the vomiting does not stop despite any measures you take to fix the problem, severe dehydration can put kitty in critical condition.

If he were mine, I would be taking him to a vet clinic for another evaluation.

Are you noticing any change in the litter box -- any blood in the urine or feces? Those would be one way to tell if there was a problem with blood loss.

Have you changed any of the food you're giving your cat? Food allergies can develop over time and my kitty would vomit if I gave her beef.

I am already allarmed. He is drinking quite a lot of water. Just now, when I am writing the post, he seams a little more colored. No blood in the litter, no change in food.
He started to vomit almost 1 1/2 month, rarely at the beginning and recently became like daily.
He almost stop eating.
I will contact a vet, but is not the best vet.

I would recommend that you ask the vet to run a blood work up including kidney function, B12/folate, and pancreatitis. Test his urine for ketones as a precaution ASAP - anything more than trace and you need to take your cat to a vet immediately. (If trace call the vet for advice on how to proceed, and post here for more help.)

Do everything you can in the meantime to get food into him - see if he will eat from your hand. Raise his food and water bowls; if he has an acidic stomach that will help make eating more comfortable.

Talk to your vet about Cerenia and ondansetron for nausea. Ask the vet to make sure that there is no obstruction in his bowels (constipation can cause nausea). Also ask about an appetite stimulant (need to treat nausea first).

Hi,

I was out for 2 days with the work, but now I am back with the cat.
The news are like this:
- on Friday night he vomit 3 times, stop eating
- on Saturnday, with my return home, I gave him viyo, liquid food with minerals, vitamines, inuline, that optimise the kidneys, the transit, reduce inflamation, etc; and a little no spa;
- starting to eat slightly liver raw and cooked, milk
- also notice something hard on this abdomen
- went to o vet today, and he studied the abdomen, looked worried, made an appointment for an ecography for tommorow evening
- there is a hard form in this abdomen, a tumor, linked to the muscles (could be from a hitting?)
- he said as he vomit that could have a link of the tumor with the inside of the stomach
- we will have tommorow the eco and I will know furthermore details
- here in romania, the vet area seams limitted, they do not test for b12, pancreatitis, ketones; The test for kidneys are ok
- meanwhile he stop vomit, eat a little and I gave him viyo, recovery can does not like to eat
Thank you,

Your prayers worked! He has no tumor, at least! All his internal organs are in good shape, except the pancreas, which is slightly hypoecogen and reactive (it hurts). He has no pancreatitics, just a bad stadium of pancreas.
They did blood test for hematology and the results were perfect, this and the fact that his organs looks good are due to you all, are due to this forum that teached me to feed my cat: food with mouse composition. My cat eats: applows dry, leonardo cans, schesir, natures menues.
He did not liked the ecografy and now is hiding in his litter box. Even hiding for me.
He did not eat, I gave him viyo.
His gums looks bad, bleading and he lost a theeth, the dental is also limited here, do you know any non invasive method for me to clean his mouth?
We received treatment with synulox, tramadol, onsior, cerenia and armetin; and milgamma; and lypex I did not succed to give him because of his mouth. Let me know if you are ok with the treatment.

Is he constipated?

He is not constipated, and today started to eat a little.
Which is the best label of food for pancreas and what is the best diet for pancreas? I was told to give him Royal canine - Intestinal, but I have my doubts.
Instead of lypex (pancreatic enzymes) what can use, as it is a big pill for a cat to swallow? I am looking for something smaller.

Thank you,
Mihaela

Hi Mihaela,

Here's a link to the Yahoo feline pancreatitis support group. I've heard very good things about them and they may be able to advise you on options for pancreatic enzyme treatments:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Feline_Pancreatitis_Support/info

Diet is a bit trickier as different cats get on with different types of diet. For example, some pancreatitis cats have difficulty with fattier foods but others find them less of a problem. Again, the Yahoo group may be able to give you some helpful suggestions on diet. With Saoirse I found that managing nausea helps her the most but there are very few foods she will eat for me (mostly UK Sheba Fine Flakes in Jelly Poultry Selection pouches, but sometimes she may eat a bit of Kattovit Sensitive Chicken paté (from Zooplus)). It can take a lot of trial and error to find a suitable food. I hope you'll find something quickly!

I am glad to hear your little fella is starting to eat a little better.
