Beast is a 9 year & 10 month old neutered male. His symptoms were weight loss and increased thirst/urination for 4-6 weeks I would estimate. After getting blood work done, the vet called and said he is diabetic. He told me his glucose count was 408 (not sure the measurement unit) and he said anything above 300 is abnormal. He told me he was going to have another test run to confirm it, and then he would call me back about treatment. Now that it is late on Saturday night I don’t anticipate a call until Monday, but I want to help him as much as I can in the meantime. I picked up a few packets of high-protein gluten/grain free wet food, a bag of potato/grain free dry food(fussie cat brand), and grain free blue wilderness treats. He likes the treats, I tried mixing the new dry food with his normal food (Hills healthy advantage oral+) but he is not interested. He has always refused wet food, my other cats eat it, so I don’t know if I will be able to get him to eat it. I tried putting his old food on top of it and he won’t touch that either. I will update this thread as I hear back and he begins his insulin regimen, any tips/advice/support are appreciated in the meantime! I fully intend on monitoring his blood glucose levels at home so send your recommendations for products, methods, etc. I have had him since I was 14 and he was 6 weeks old, and my heart is broken to know he isn’t feeling well.
