Hello - new boy Simba recently diagnosed.

simba my lovely 8 year old boy was diagnosed three weeks ago. He is caninsulin - 3units twice daily and following the vets prescription diet of dry and wet. I’ve had some really helpful advice from the forums about home testing etc but struggling to get Simba to let us do it. I’m working on it though and will try to persevere.
I would like to change him to wet food only but scared to do this whilst I can’t home test.

Welcome! I’m a rookie here and really don’t have the experience to give advice but you will find the experienced folks here so very helpful. Several have been dealing with this for years and will go out of their way to help. Take it one shot/blood test at a time.
 
Welcome. 3 units is a high dose for a newly diagnosed cat. It's cut that down to 1 unit until you get the hang of home testing. The dry food is to high in carb, but don't cut that out until you lower the dose.
 
Welcome to a fantastic community of experienced and helpful individuals. In order to take full benefit of any advice on offer there are a couple of things you will need to set up.
Firstly, set up your signature. This provides general information so we don't need to ask every time you post. If you go to your name top right hand side of the page. Click and you will get a drop down box. On the left you will find signature. Type, cats name and yours if you like, age, weight, date of diagnosis, type of insulin and the meter you are using and food you are feeding any other issues and your location or timezone. (We have members all over the world so it can be important if you need help) don't forget to save when done.
Secondly, we all use a spreadsheet in order to track BG's. This is a very useful tool for you and for anyone helping you with advice. You will find out how to set it up under "tech help"
If you have any problems just post back and we'll get someone to help you.

I know you are probably overwhelmed right now with the diabetes diagnosis, we have all been there and understand how scary it can feel, but it is manageable and once you get started it can, in fact feel very empowering. Just a little housekeeping to do initially so that you get the most out of this forum.

Well done. Glad to hear its a calmer day for you. You will do great with the help you get here on the forum. Don't be afraid to ask questions, there really is no dumb questions as this is how we all learn.

I see in your signature you're having trouble testing. Try using a size 28 gauge lancet. The thinner ones are hard to get a sample with in the beginning
