Good evening everyone!
My name is Barbara and I have a newly diagnosed 16 year old sugar baby named Flurry.
Flurry was a big cat who suddenly began dropping weight, fur and was eating me out of house and home. I should have known the signs as my dog Rusty also was a sugar baby.

I took Flurry to the vets expecting a thyroid issue and was somewhat surprised at the diagnoses. DENIAL.
His blood glucose and urine gave a read of 409. This was after eating an hour prior. That is high but was wondering if the stress played in the high read as well.

The next day we started him on 1 unit of Lantus in the morning with his meal. While he is still hungry I do not see the look of frenzy in his eyes. I have been feeding him three cans of FF a day. One in the morning. One midday. One in the evening.
He has been acting a bit odd this evening so after doing so reading I pricked the vein in his ear and was able to get enough
To get a read. The reading was 390 about 15 minutes after he ate.

I sense he may need an increase in the Lantus tomorrow but am afraid.

Suggestions please.

One last question I have noticed some aggression in my normally passive fur baby in the evenings.

Wow sorry for the novel.

Welcome Barbara and her sugardude Flurry. This is an amazing site with a wide range of experience about all sorts of questions. Our collective experience should be able to help you in your journey with Flurry in this new sugardance you have started.

Stress levels super high? Can't sleep at night? Not sure how your baby Flurry will get through this? Have you read this post yet? a message from your cat

Wow sorry for the novel.
Actually, that was pretty short for a new member. In fact I need some more information in order to help you better.

What was the diagnosis date?
What food are you feeding? Which Fancy Feast style - pate, chunky, shreds, sliced, other?
What meter are you using for home testing?
How much BG (blood glucose) data do you have to share with us?
When have you been home testing? What times? pre-shot? nadir?
Do you know when the nadir is occurring?

Where do you live? Country, state/province would be helpful so we can give country specific advice.

One last question I have noticed some aggression in my normally passive fur baby in the evenings.
I don't know on the aggression. Maybe someone else will.

Once the insulin starts bringing down their numbers, they start feeling better, sometimes better than they've felt in a looooong time. Is Flurry an only cat? I noticed increased aggression in Michelangelo when he was first diagnosed and was able to directly link it to increased energy having no outlet because once I got Henry, Michelangelo's aggression dissipated significantly. You don't necessarily need to get another cat, but you might want to increase play with him and see if that helps.
