Hello there. My cat just got diagnosed with feline diabetes and I don't know much about it. The vet told us we can keep him with is old food and keep giving him 2 cc of insulin twice a day. Can anyone help me in understanding more about feline diabetes.

Welcome to the boards.

Could you give us bit more info on you and your cat?

What's your cat's name and age?
What food is he currently eating?
What symptoms did he have, if any?
Do you have any blood glucose numbers and did your vet dx on just 1 test or on a fructosamine test?
What type of insulin has been prescribed, ie. the name. The prefered ones are lantus, levemir and prozinc for cats.
Have you given insulin yet?

Sorry for the questions but it helps get a full picture of where you're at.

There is a lot of info on the site, start here: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2501
Read as much as you can, particularly the stickies at the top of the forum.

And ask as many questions as you can - no question is too silly for us!! :-D

Welcome aboard!
2cc or 2 Units? Just checking, because 2cc is a LOT.
There's a lot of good information here and a lot of good people who are willing to help.
Did your vet mention home testing at all? It's a great way to save money AND keep your kitty safe while they're on insulin. You can get human meters pretty cheap (the Relion brand from Walmart if accurate, inexpensive and popular). Testing takes a little practice, but a lot of kitties get the hang of it as long as there are treats involved.

I know it can feel like there's a lot to learn, but you're definitely in the right place.

Welcome to the best site to help you help your kitty. Much to read, much to learn but you CAN do this. There is a wealth of information here at your fingertips and a family to help you learn.
again WELCOME,

Welcome fellow newbie! I'm only a week old here and I've learned SO MUCH from all of these wonderful people. I second home testing for keeping your kitty safe - you wouldn't let your kid take insulin without testing first would you? Had I not been home testing this week, I could have had a sugarcat that went over the rainbow.

Welcome to the club and ask every question you can think of.
