Hello and welcome! What is your little kitty's name?

Feline Diabetes is a manageable disease that does require a bit more time in the beginning as you familiarize yourself with all the new information and terminology and we're here to help with that! Please let us know what type of insulin your vet prescribed (and the dose) and what type of foods the little kitty is eating. {{hugs!}} No need to be sad because you've just found the best place you never wanted to be. ;-)

One more thing, has your vet talked with you about home-testing? Are you planning on home-testing? It's the safest, least expensive, and easiest way to manage this disease, so I highly encourage it. ;-)

Day 2 going great, a little tough getting her to eat the new diet but working through it! Any ideas on the best source for insulin and syringes ? Thanks again everyone !!

Hi Bean and extra sweet little girl kitty! Welcome!

Insulin - what kind of insulin is the vet telling you to get?

There are different kinds - the 3 that work best for cats are Lantus, Levemir and PZI (SUE - Did I switch them?). There is also Humulin/Novalin N, ProZinc and Vetsulin. I have to laugh at myself here, it's either PZI or ProZinc...I can't remember which is the more suggested...we use Lantus. Some are available thru any human pharmacy while others are vet insulins.

Syringes and Test Meter - WallyWorld (Walmart) as long as you're in the USA. Someone will post a handy dandy shopping list for you shortly!

You landed in the best place you never wanted to be....we live diabetic cats 24/7 as we either have or had one.

HUGS!

What is your kitties name?

Where do you live?

So we can give you country specific advice for where to get the insulin and syringes.

I get my syringes at Wal-Mart. Relion house brand are about $13 for 100 syringes. You want the ones that are 3/10 cc, with 1/2 unit markings on the barrel, long or short needle is your choice as it's very much a personal preference.

Some states require a prescription for the syringes, some don't.
