Hi all!
My name is Casey and my cat, Setti, was diagnosed as diabetes about a month ago. He is currently on 2u of Vetsulin 2x daily. I've been lurking around on here for the past several days and decided to join to get more specific advice and moral support! I'm glad I found this place, because my vet hasn't been too keen on my suggestions based on reading (when I told her I was doing my research she said "oh no a dr. google" which is an insult to us librarians!).
I've decided to take matters into my own hands for the time being and I'm fixing to switch vets to a feline specialist in my area (Marietta, GA). Setti was free fed dry food for the vast majority of his 10 years of life, but we're trying out FF classics this week and so far so good. Vet wanted me to switch him to the Hills RX dry food, but I've read so many bad things about keeping them on dry food and that the rx dry food isn't any better than what I can get at the store. I don't currently have a glucometer (something my vet was opposed to), but I'm going to buy one this week so I can keep a closer eye on his glucose levels.
My major concern at this moment in time is the fact that Setti hates hates getting his injections. Every morning and night is a struggle and no matter what I try he still reacts negatively towards it. I'm using 40-u syringes with 29 gauge needles. I've read that it might be better to go down to a 30 or 31 gauge needle, but I'm still figuring out exactly where and how to purchase supplies.
