Almost 6 years ago my beloved Burmese, Austin was diagnosed with diabetes. That's when I first found this forum. His diabetes has been a rocky road, with us struggling to get something resembling control for most of the time. This forum was a god send when we first found out and until we could find a vet willing to work with us.

I've come here today, sadly, to say that Austin is at the foot of the rainbow bridge. His time has come and he has his final vet appointment in 24 hours. We have been blessed with almost 18 years with our baby.

To anyone new reading this with a newly diagnosed fur baby. Educate yourselves, educate your vet (better yet, find one that will work with you), and don't believe the doom and gloom from people who haven't walked this journey. Diabetes is manageable, it is not a death sentence.

Hugs and prayers to you and Austin. May Austin cross the bridge peacefully and may all your wonderful memories of him give you peace at this hard time.

Wow, I find it amazing(!!) that you can go through this loss and STILL be a 'Light of Hope' for the rest of us! You are an incredibly remarkable person(!).., that you can even think of encouraging others in your time of stress! Whew! Austin must have had a FANTASTIC life with you(!!); I am sure he felt honored and grateful to be with you, (as you with him)...AND I guarantee you both displayed this to each other, every day!! Woo Hoo!! Thank you for your words of hope, my Dante was diagnosed 5 weeks ago, so I am still on an immense, intense, learning curve. This forum has been an answer to prayer with all the support I have received in just the 2 weeks that I have been a member! Again, with your words...through this forum...I find an incredible ray of light for me, thank you! :) :)

Please know that Austin is still with you, for a few more days...so please, talk to him, he will hear you, as this will allow healing to occur...for both of you. Then allow him to move on, not from your heart, but on...to the next platform, where there is no pain and he will be young again! He chose you for a reason, and I can see why! You are both blessed, cherish it!

God Bless you Austin and so sorry for you but keep the faith and the strength that you show! I know the sadness of losing a kitty as I have lost many to diseases or just a sudden loss due to whatever reason. May God bless you and your family through this and he did live a great 18 years! RIP Austin!

I too have had to let go of a beloved pet. It is heart breaking. 18 years is a long run...six with the added burden of diabetes awesome. I am so very sorry for your loss. But, it sounds like you were a great mom. Blessings from jane and stewey
