Ok I think I got the chart on the web. My baby is Heathy. He is 21 lbs, 11 years old. After a three years in remission, a bout with crystals in the kidneys, and eating, a high salt content food from the VET, he is Diabetic again.

Last Thursday: reading was 427
He is taking 2 units of Lantus. Was 220 this morning and now at noon..317!

I think this is the correct address for the chart.
Also...I'm not sure I'm filling out the chart right.
are the +1, +2 numbers the hours between he readings?

Is AMPS morning readings and PMPS evening readings. Sorry I must sound like an idiot! BUt I couldn't find the definition on the web page.

Any suggestions for treats? My boy sure deserves them after all our poking!
Also...I'm not sure I'm filling out the chart right.

Hi there and welcome!

Breathe...it's all going to be OK. Sorry to hear Heathy needs to go back on insulin.

The link to Heathys ss works. Looks like you are filling it in correctly. Lantus is given every 12 hours, so AMPS and PMPS are you pre-shot numbers each cycle. +1,+2 etc count the hours since the shot. Please read the following:

You've come to the right place! Ask questions - plenty of folks to guide you here.

edited to add - there are many low carb treats to give to kitty, I use Halo Liv-a-littles freeze dried chicken treats. I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

The best treats EVER, and your kitty will act they're kitty crack, is freeze-dried chicken breast and freeze-dried salmon. They're both 100% protein so no carbs at all. You can get them at Petsmart or Petco. I know Petco doesn't have the salmon. Get the freeze-dried chicken in the dog food aisle. The bag is larger and it costs less per ounce. I also sprinkle it on Champ's food when he doesn't want to eat what I've put in front of him!! He scarfs it right up!

hi! were on you FDMB when heathy was diabetic before? just curious.

i boil chicken breasts and cut them into little cubes, then freeze them and bring out a little bit to the fridge at a time.

heathy's numbers are going to be wonky for a bit for these first few days while his shed is filling. unless he goes below 50, hold the dose, do frequent testing if you can so you can see his body's pattern of responding to the insulin emerge, and ask away for whatever you need help with.

and what's your name? :-D or i'll have to call you heathy's bean.

Hi, yes I was here 4 years ago when Heathy (Heathcliff) first went diabetic. He went into remission for about 3 yrs after being treated w/lantus one year, and switching over to Wellness wet Beef and Chicken. My Big sweet boy! BTW..I'm Nayda or Heathy's mommy....whatever! As before, I am pasted to this site, in hopes of helping my Heathy recover again. This is the best site! I have recomended it to a couple of people.

Welcome, Nadya!!

I can't get the link to your SS to work. With this board, you need to put the location (the http: info) between the URL brackets. Click on the URL button above the text box. It will insert the code, . Paste the location of Heathy's SS between the two sets of brackets.

This link has a ton of info and links for low carb treats. It doesn't list the ones my FD cat likes. Wellness makes a jerky style treat that is just protein. They come in a couple of different flavors and are a big hit with my guys.

Hi Nadya (what a pretty name!)
Just wanted to say hi to you and Healthy. I'm sorry to hear his Honeymoon is over. Hopefully it won't be too long until he goes back!
I'm fairly new, so I can't offer any advice, but I'm sure glad you asked about treats! That's a question that's been on my list.
Take Care : )

Here is the link for Heathy's SS (the website link in her profile works)

You need to add this text to your signature:
Code:
[url=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Atlf4FSsG4q9dE9UZkRDSFJHNkZTRzJzZDBFQURsNUE&output=html]Heathy's SS[/url]

Here is a glossary with many of the acronyms used here

BTW, you lost a month in your SS  It's now Sept, apparently confused_cat. You need to clean up the sheet a bit. You should have 1 line per day, with AMPS as the time of the AM shot, PMPS as the time for the PM shot, and all other measurements inbetween.

It looks like Heathy is still settling in to the Lantus. It's not unusual for the numbers to bounce around a bunch for a number of days before things settle down; that's why we generally don't change the dose for the first 5 or so days. The more measurements you can get, the easier it will be to figure out what is really going on.

  I'm just realizing that your kitty's name is HEATHY not Healthy!! I'm cracking up!!! I hope you're as amused as I am! I thought Healthy was a kind of ironic name!

  Ya'll I'm dying!!! Why is this cracking me up so much!?
...and I was confused about how you got "Healthy" from Heathcliff

Hey.

Your spreadsheet looks better. How much Lantus did get actually get at the vet?

You should put a link to the SS in your signature so that people can find it easily.

Let's hope Healthy earns his new nickname quickly!
