Just wondering if others have noticed a drop in appetite in your cats during heat waves. Currently about 102 here with humidity.

Have noticed this with Roops. Other cat not eating either. Will eat more in the mornings when it is cooler but uninterested as the day progresses.

Trying to encourage him to at least drink. Offering home made version of gravy (water mixed with pate). Turns his nose up to this at time too. We are withholding evening insulin shot if he does not eat much.

Considering freezing water in a balloon, then removing balloon and putting ice ball in a bowl for the cats to lick from. Saw this on a video and thought might work for the boys.

Can't say my band of cats have cared, it's about 95 here with high humidity but they're always ready for more food. It's always this hot during the summer though so they may just be used to it?

The water balloon idea sounds neat, I've tried offering mine ice cubes but they aren't interested. Would love to hear how the ice ball works if you decide to try it! :D

My cats definitely eat less in the heat. They still eat enough for me not to worry, but they're not the same little piggies when it's hot outside.
The balloon idea sounds pretty interesting. I know my cats really enjoy when I put down blobs of frozen canned pate for them at night. They start licking at it right away, while they're still frozen. But for the most part, they're still frozen when I go to bed and they're all gone in the morning.

I may try freezing some of his pate. Good idea for Roops, and the other older fellow. He never drinks enough. Never did. Roops does seem to enjoy 'gravy' made from pate but not so much when it is hot/muggy. Has another worrisome habit he has just started. Crawls under couch when I take my daughter to work in the morning. Think he knows when we are leaving. If we are at home we put him on couch, and point a fan on him. Not sure but maybe cooler under there and certainly less risk of getting stepped on. Cannot move as quickly as he did this time last year. No startling changes or improvements with the neuropathy in the last week or so. But is now walking up and down two short steps from our summer kitchen into the main part of our home. Going in and out as he pleases. Work in progress. Believing there are better days ahead for him. Must have patience.

And his numbers go down and remain steady over a period of time, there should be a change in his neuropathy. It does take time though - usually a good 6 months. I think I was lucky with Jack, that I saw improvement so fast.

Roops is such a handsome boy! He sounds a little quirky. I have a cat who acts quirky, and I love her!
Give the frozen canned food a try. My cats really love it. I freeze blobs of it on small cookie sheets and them pop them off and put them in zip lock freezer bags. They freeze relatively quick. My daughter calls them the cat cookies, because that's just what they look like!

Not so much with the cats but definitely the dog. His time outside is limited to one poop and a quick stroll in the shade.
I keep forgetting I'm not 18 anymore and I'm pretty sure I got some mild heat stroke last Friday. Problem is you don't know it's happening until you come inside and your wife tells you to look in the mirror. I slept the entire weekend.
