Ok Doogle's blood tests came back and everything looks ok. Thyroid level was a little low but he said nothing to alarm about. Glucose was a little elevated but that is to be expected he said with no real insulin. No ketones either. So we are going back today to get the port out of his leg. He did get up early this morning and licked up some water from a can of tuna and licked some turkey and giblets FF plus he walked around a little. Then he went back to sleep. Havent gotten him to lick or eat anything since. We are going to get something to stop the diarrhea and I will ask is there something he can give for an appetite stimulant. We are just going to watch him over the weekend and we have the vet's home number in case something happens (the DH used to work with him for 3 years as an assistant). The vet thinks it could be just an intestinal bug but not sure. We will see what he say when we go in. We checked his BS at 6am and he was 384 and then I checked him at 10 and he was 338. So at least we are skyrocketing without insulin.

Be sure you determine if he's nauseous before you give an appetite stimulant. If he acts nauseous....smells the food and walks away or smells food and drools, you should get a script for ondansetron and give that first to address the nausea. Then you can give him the appetite stimulant. The vet might want to give cerenia for nausea but it's really better for vomiting. The ondansetron...aka zofran...is the best choice for nausea.

Sending healing vines!

He isnt nauseated any more at least. He just went to bathroom and urinated in the litter box. We are going to go pick up Albon and we have the choice of a b12 liquid or shot? Which do yall think we should do? He did lick very little of wet food with some fortiflora on it a few minutes ago at least but thats it. We are moving around and we are interested in playing hide and seek with the feather wand.

Re: Heard back from vet on Doogle, b12 shot or liquid?

I haven't a clue what B12 tastes like. The last thing you want is something that tastes vile. I'd opt for the shot.

Ondansatron or Cerenia are fine if you need an anti-nausea drug. I'd also try baby food if there's a GI thing going on. It's easy to digest. You want Gerber or Beechnut Stage 2 -- it's meat and broth (and maybe some cornstarch in the Gerber.)

One of the signs of nausea is they act hungry, come to the food when it's served and then lick their lips, maybe take a bite or two, and then walk away. Nausea doesn't necessarily mean the act of throwing up. I know it's confusing.

Re: Heard back from vet on Doogle, b12 shot or liquid?

Sorry, just got home from graduation. The vet gave us a multivitamin drop to give Doogle 3-4 times a day. We still have him isolated in our room and he ate a tiny bit of canned chicken in water. So we syringe fed him and we are waiting to see if he can hold it down. Giving 2.5ml of Albon a day. Going in the morning to get fluids unless he starts drinking on his own tonight. Then we will take it from there. We still dont know what is causing this but its not his thyroid or a blockage. One of the levels of his pancreas is just slightly elevated but not enough to warrant something like pancreatitis. He really thinks this could have been coming before the crash of his BS and they just happen to do it at the same time. We are walking around some which is good at least. Tomorrow is another day.
