Just a short note here re the health of Ms. Thang (14) and La Dudester (17). We're getting ready to make our cross-country trip so both had to go in for check-ups and rabies shots, etc. Dude has been getting them regularly because of his Hyper T and BP and the growth in his chest - his bloodwork is looking just the same as always - his BP was 161 and his T-4 was 1.3 - so he's doing great on the meds. The area around the chest growth is a lot clearer and while the growth isn't smaller, it hasn't grown much, if any, so he is okay to travel - or so Dan says and we're hoping the Pred is helping.
Now, Mittsi - first, the tech Eddie wanted to take the afternoon off when he saw us in the waiting room but Dan refused to let him go home. Poor Mittsi - she has such a reputation.
She always has to be sedated because no one can/will handle her if she's awake and alert. She is always fine until Dan enters the room and she goes into such a fit it's scary. Soooo, he said to leave her - they would sedate her, clip her nails and take blood and thoroughly check her and we could come back and get her in an hour. They do it the easy way - they put her carrier into the "gas box" and then slowly sedate her - then do whatever needs to be done - put her back in the carrier and she wakes up where she went to sleep - less trauma on her that way and fewer bites and scratches on the Dan and the techs that way.
We had hardly gotten home when the phone rang - it was Dan. He said that Mittsi is so smart - she's wise to them - the minute they put the carrier into the "gas box" she buried her face in the blanket and breathed through the blanket - it took them twice as long to sedate her - she wouldn't go to sleep. Then they found a resorptive lesion on her right upper canine and the entire tooth was very soft and mushy - he said she apparently was in a bit of pain which had not been known to us at all. So, they pulled the canine - they took blood - they tested a small fatty tumor on her side - and they clipped all 23 toenails (thank you, Dan).
Her bloodwork shows BG was "H" - 131 - HA - little do they (the lab) know what "H" is - I'm happy when Dude's at 131. Her T-4 was at 3 which is high normal so we'll have to watch that and recheck her in a couple of months to see if she's going into Hyper-T. Other than that, she's fine.
So we're hopefully starting out with two healthy kitties - rabies shots given and certificates in hand - and ready to travel - will all of you in the midwest and east please bring those temps down a bit so we won't all melt on our way across?
Thanks,
Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)
