I am currently helping a person living in Paris who has a diabetic kitty named Kabaret (see his spreadsheet in my signature).
He is 12 years old and has a little bit of weight to lose.

She told me that her cat sometimes has this weird symptom of legs or head shaking. At first I thought it was a symptom of hypo, but no... After testing him nothing leads to that explanation. She did tell me that the symptoms seemed to happen more often and were more intense before he was treated with Lantus, but it still happens about twice a week.

What could it be if its not a hypo symptom?
Thanks for your help

I'll be interested to see the response to your question as my cat Alice has started to flick her legs out, especially her front ones as though she is trying to shake something off them. Sorry I have no answer for you & maybe it is different to Kabaret. I'm sure someone will come along with some help for you.

Cats can have epilepsy as well as other neurological issues and conditions (ex parasites, tumor, poisonings0. If glucose testing rules out hypo- or hyper- glycemia, you'll need to work with your vet. If possible, get video of the problem to show the vet.

Merlin has been diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy. His front legs twitch more than his back legs. I see him twitch when he is drinking water or eating his food and I have noticed they twitch especially when his BG numbers are higher. The twitch seem to subside when his numbers are lower.

And, if it is diabetic neuropathy, methylcobalamin, a specific form of Vitamin B 12, can be helpful.

One product is here. There are others. Any for cats should have no sweeteners in it.

I also thought of a neurological problem and thought about Zobaline, but damn this product is expensive when it needs to be delivered to Europe... I will talk to Sylvie about it.
I'm sure she'll want to try anything that doesn't require a vet's intervention before going any further! Her cat is very very stressed when he goes to the vet which tends to worsen his diabetes. Also, she kind of no longer trust the vets she went to
:(

It doesn't have to be Zobaline. It just has to be METHYLcobalamin. Check vitamin stores. You want one without any sweeteners.

I know this one :
http://m.vitacost.com/products/vitacost ... 0-capsules

But unfortunately it is made (just like all other methyl b12, except Zobaline), of unhealthy ingredients like rice flour.
Before ordering Zobaline for my own cat couple of months ago, I really tried to find an alternative to flours, but couldn't find any!

If you guys have found an alternative, please share it with us!

Keep in mind the 'dose makes the poison'. The amount of flour in these is likely to be trivial. Fed at the same time time as a low carb meal - sprinkled over the food - it is unlikely to have a significant effect in most cats, especially if the cat is a grazer or is fed mini-meals.

Hi Kim, Sylvie and Kabaret,

I was kindly given some Zobaline for Alice by Juliet from here. My cat Alice she wouldn't eat after giving it her so you are welcome to it if you would like me to forward it to you, its not a full pot though but you are welcome. Incidentally Alice was found to have normal B12 levels and the vet said that she didn't need more (she was considering giving it by injection). Alice still has leg problems especially if her sugar is high. I still wonder if I should give some though & thought about trying the human Methylcabolamin by Solgar that I used to take myself (under the tongue). It is such a huge dose though so wondered if I could chip a bit off one & try that!

Anyway, PM me with your details & I will post the Zobaline I have left here if you would like it.

All the best

Julie
