I am an occasional photographer. This afternoon I had a client over to do some portraits. While we were working I could hear Sam rustling around in the kitchen, but he does that fairly often so I didn't think much of it. Turns out he had found an old bag of kibble in the back of a cupboard where I keep emergency supplies. Since I wasn't paying attention, he had time to drag the bag out of the box, tear the bag open, and eat who-knows-how-much before I finished the photo session and finally got around to checking on him. Oh, the GUILTY look on his furry little face when he emerged from the cupboard!

So now my question: Should I check his BG in a couple of hours? Or assume it will be high and just check him tomorrow to make sure it's back down to OTJ levels?
 
That little stinker. I would do both. It would be interesting to see how high it took him and also to make sure tomorrow he was in good numbers. These cats...............:blackeye:
 
Oh Sam! Yeah, I'd do both. Don't panic, just keep an eye on things and hopefully it won't cause any problems.
 
At least it was a "healthy" kibble and not anything super high-carb. Still probably enough to raise his levels though -- he's bouncing around like a six-year-old on Halloween. I'm not even sure he'd be able to hold still long enough for me to get a test right now. :cat: I'll check him an a bit and see how he's doing. Keep your fingers crossed that his little body can handle the onslaught of carbs!
 
At approximately +2 from the kibble incident, his BG is at 95!!! I tested twice because I couldn't believe it was really that low. Either he didn't really eat that much, or he's just doing unbelievably well right now. Thanks for all your good thoughts! And now I think I had best change out his emergency food stash to something in a can. ;).
 
Just read through this thread, Djamila - and am so glad to see that Sam's little escapade didn't result in a high BG by +2. Can imagine how greatly relieved you were to see that 95!

What a sneaky boy you have there!:rolleyes: Thanks for sharing this little story with us - you gave me a much-needed chuckle tonight!:D
 
Well, my theory that maybe he didn't eat very much isn't holding up. It's now nearly four hours past his usual dinner time, and he hasn't asked for any food (he's normally quite vocal about dinner time). I just checked his BG again because he doesn't look like he's feeling all that well. It's still fine (87). He'll probably decide he wants dinner at 2am! I wonder if it's a little like what happens to us beans when we eat too much junk food? We may technically be healthy, but we sure don't feel well for a bit!
