So, the vet said no food after 10pm the night before the dental, and to bring his food, treats, insulin with, and that makes sense BUT - I don't really want them to give him his insulin, do I? Cause it will be hours and hours after the normal time. I drop him off at 8am and pick him up in the late afternoon, and we're on a 7am/pm schedule.

When Mia had dental work done, I was told to give her 1/2 her dose at the normal time. She was on ProZinc though, so that may not work with Vetsulin.

I agree with you that you do not want them to give the shot at some random time that will throw off your schedule.

1) RECOMMENDATIONS

a) General Approach

i) Patient should be given ½ of the usual morning insulin dose, at the normal time at home, prior to admission

ii) Maximize speed of recovery and early return to oral food intake


Unless Cameron had a prior DKA I would not have the vet administer any insulin.
