Have you taken your kitty to the vet during a hypo?

Tonight's scare was enough to get me started actually getting ready to walk out the door. If that happens, I want to be prepared.

Have y'all had to take your kitty to the vet during a hypo? I was trying to figure out what kinds of information to gather. I grabbed a little cash and the debit card and was thinking of maybe putting the SS on a jump drive so didn't have to take time to print it out (and hope for no printer probs), written details of the hypo event, testing equip, karo, higher carb food, phone number and directions to the ER...I need to get his test results from the vet...and, of course, a cooler bag with water and snacks for the beans. (I carry one almost everywhere we go, just in case.) Anything else?

Thanks,

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

Definitely bring Doug, and let him drive. You will have Hershey on your lap, and will handle the testing or karo or whatever.

Cash or credit is a great idea, because an ER is likely to want instant payment. Snacks and drinks for you two.
The SS, that's okay, but as long as you have the meter, it should have a memory of all the recent tests on it? You'll know the time and amounts of his most recent shot or two, and anything prior to that won't be all that useful to the ER vet.

Bring some food for Hershey, a couple cans, just in case you have to leave him at the ER. You won't want them feeding him something he isn't used to, or with different carbs once his numbers get higher. Another good thing to bring in case he has to stay is something he's familiar with and that smells like home or Mom and Dad, like a blanket or sweater. That way when he comes around, something will be familiar to him.

Definitely mapquest the vet/ER, and put a copy in the glove box so you know you have it when needed.
