Has anyone ever used Loperamide (immodium)?

Since Trinket has liquipoo I've researched meds for diarrhea and found out that a form of immodium can be used for cats but it's use is considered "controversial" according to one of the sites. I've never used it but it would be nice to have some around the house for emergencies. Any experience using it?
I also found one other option - diphenoxylate (lomotil) but the loperamide is supposedly faster-acting.

I have not used either.

Some folks have found a small amount of psyllium mixed into the food helpful - about 1/4 teaspoon in a meal. It helps soak up the excess fluid, giving some form to the stool.

Yup - you're right. I have that at home. I use CVS brand tastless and odorless fiber. I will add some of that in her food tonight.

A Vet told me to give it to Smokie once when she had diarrhea but after i looked up information on it i would never give it.

According to Pet Place, it is a controversial treatment for animals, and can cause side effects in some cats, particularly those suffering from certain conditions including renal failure.

I did use the psyllium just a pinch in tuna juice cause you have to add lots of water with it.
It may take just one dose of that to stop diarrhea. Got to be careful with psyllium.

How long has kitty had diarrhea?

That is not psyllium, an insoluble fiber; that is a soluble fiber, usually derived from wheat. It may not work the same way.

Okay - well, whatever I have (I'm at work) was suggested by my vet for Merlin's diarrhea so I know it's safe to give.

She's had diarrhea 2ce since late last night. I'm leaving work now and will go directly home to see how she is.
