Has anybody ever gotten a bad Lantus pen?

Alska (aka Snoball) was doing so well with low numbers, almost regulated on a low dose and now it seems the minute he was on the new pen, his numbers went up. Even his mid-cycles don't seem to fluctuate. I have removed the Nature's Variety Instinct beef as his btw meal snack because it was suggested that beef could raise bg in some cats. Now he is getting Wild Calling! pheasant and I am picking up some Wellness chicken today. Not sure if this is food related or a bad pen.

The pen looks clear, no air bubbles or particles. So I was wondering if anybody ever had this experience attributed to a bad batch of lantus.

Is it also the first pen of a new box?
Likely just the cat. Many times I would swear that the Lantus is not working in one of my cats but Lantus from the same still works great in my three other cats.

No, it's the 3rd pen of a new box. The first pen went fast because I had two fosters and the second pen went with one foster to her new foster home. I have a fourth pen.

Strange. I have never had a problem in the over 100 pens I have used. Some were even past their expiration date and some were not refrigerated during shipment

A pen I once had... it leaked.... weird right?! It didnt leak a lot... but the outside of the pen smelled like insulin and was a little damp. Well, the insulin didnt seem to be working so I switched to a new pen again and the new pen seemed to help.

If you are worried or concerned about it... you could try taking the pen to the pharmacy and asking them about it... or if you have another pen and you think you could use both of the pens within a reasonable amount of time - cant hurt to try a different pen. If the new pen brings better numbers youll know it was the pen.... if the new pen doesnt bring lower numbers then you will know both pens are okay to use.

Opened new pen this morning...

Alska came down to 70 at +5.5. I gave him a snack and will take a +6.5 but he usually cycles pretty flat - when he's on insulin. I am pretty darn convinced now that it was indeed a bad pen. Unfortunately, this would mean that he hasn't had effective insulin for 13 DAYS!

Oh well... good to finally have figured this out.
