So since the dose decrease I've been struggling with the syringes and after the first few doses they have been getting fatter and fatter. The problem is that I'm using the Relion syringes with the 1/2 unit markings but they have bubble troubles and they don't always slide easily. I get the bubbles up to the top and then slide the plunger to close to the dose and then it doesn't want to move and when it does I end up squirting all of the insulin out. I'm throwing away up 3 to 4 syringes and over 2 units of insulin with each injection. Out of frustration I ended shooting .25u the other night on my 4th syringe and then Harley paid for it. I have been able to get the dose right the last 3 injections

Is there a better syringe that I can use? I don't mind paying more for them but I just can't seem to find any locally.

Any suggestions?
 
Thanks Mel, and that's only a few dollars more than Walmart, although I'm not good at interned shopping yet, UGG. I was hoping to find them locally but I will start looking for those.

I usually recommend the following from Hocks, but their lines are not always consistent and you either have to use the drop method or an external measuring device like I do.

I know a lot of members were upset with Hocks dropping their support of FDMB and there were also complaints about customer service since the company was sold. I have not had any problems, I ordered the wrong gauge syringe back in May and they were able to get me the right syringes in the same quick amount of time they always did. I was only frustrated because they cancelled my order and I had to re-order, which meant a day delay because I was at work when I called and no access to the net there. Why they couldn't just change the order to the right size needles made no sense to me but the customer service person said they couldn't do that.

They do have half unit marks even if it doesn't look like it on the site, those are the ones I'm using right now and they definitely have half unit marks. They are very easy to get air bubbles out of and easy to get the plunger to slide.

Well, that's frustrating. Maybe I'm just too detail oriented, but the description should include that info. I would not buy them if I didn't see it on the page!
 
One thing that I do is, before sticking the syringe into the insulin, I slide the plunger up and down - seems to lubricate it. Then slightly overdraw. With lantus you can't shoot back into the vial/cart (you can with lev if you haven't withdrawn the needle). Then to get the right dose, twist the plunger like you are screwing it in. that works much smoother than pushing. Practice with a used syringe and some water or old insulin.
 
Yeah me too, but my Mom is a diabetic and she is the one that recommend those as she is on a cocktail of insulins, and those are the ones she uses for her fast acting stuff. I even made her order the first box for me off the link, because I figured if they weren't right she could still use them for her other insulins...lol.

I like them because they are all individually sealed, as well as capped, so if I have to take Musette with us somewhere and need to test and shoot I can stick them in my purse and not have to worry about them coming in contact with anything in my purse.

I use the Relion syringes. I had the same complaint and Sheila suggested sliding the plunger up and down. So I started furiously sliding the plunger of a new syringe up and down about 50 times. . . well maybe not quite 50 times. . . but you get the picture. It worked.

I noticed that the Monojet syringe that comes up with that link is not a 3/10cc syringe. If you click on the 3/10cc syringe, it does say "half-unit markings."
