I saw these in Petsmart today - gee, I don't think _I_ eat anything that expensive! Has anyone tried to duplicate at home?

I won't buy those on principal - they are too expensive for the amount you get. There are other brands out there that are cheaper like Pure Bites but it depends on what store you go to. I've seen the prices vary! keep looking around.

No - I've never dehydrated my own chicken at home.

Wal-Mart has freeze dried chicken and duck treats over with the Dog treats that all of my cats love and they are nothing but pure meat. They are sold under the Brand name of Waggin' Trail. And I think I pay like $8 or $9 for 22oz. Now since they are for dogs they are big chunks of chicken or duck so I just get out the handy dandy kitchen shears and a tupperware storage container, cut them up into bit size pieces and store them that way. Works great, and out of 11 cats not a one of them turns their noses up to them.
(the duck will give you sticker shock, but the chicken is very reasonable priced)

WOW! that's way cheaper and larger than the cheapest place I've found purebites!

I'm going to walmart to check this out!

If your wal-mart is set up anywhere close to the way ours is, you will find the smaller bags over with the dog treats, but the bigger bags I found on an end-cap near the dry dog food/catfood. Everyone here just goes ape for them. They are Waggin' Trail Wholesome chicken jerky tenders. 22oz, for right around $9. total ingredient list is :Chicken breast, Vegetable Glycerin and Natural Flavor. Crude Protien - min 65%, Crude Fat- Min 1%-Max 3%, Crude Fiber-Max 0.5% and Moisture - Max 16%.

The duck ones were something like 8oz for $5. But if you cut them up into bite size pieces, it still makes a ton of treats. Its the best bang for the buck that I have found so far, and with 11 I need a cheap treat.

I just wonder if they're made like that Chinese dog food Walmart sold. Somehow, I don't trust them at all anymore. But, I'll look next time I'm in one - which is abt once a year. HATE their labor practices.
Thanks.

Actually I checked out that before I bought them...lol They are made in Anderson, South Carolina. Here is the website
http://www.waggintrainbrand.com/index.html And I need to correct myself, they aren't freeze-dried I was thinking of some other ones that I used to feed, these have been slow cooked.

I do know that they don't effect Max's BGs at all.
