Hairball Questions

Hi! I have one diabetic cat and one that is not. Heidi is not and she rarely will eat treats but I use to give both the pounce hairball treats. I stopped that since Maguai (my diabetic) who is dominant will take the treats from Heidi (she will eat them sometimes but on her own time). Now Heidi is coughing up hairballs. So my question is, is there any hairball remedies that can be given to a diabetic cat or will I have to separate Heidi and hope that she feels like eating the hairball treats at that time? :?: confused_cat

My Himalayan who had urinary tract issues and did not have diabetes used to have hairballs quite a bit. She died at 19 years old and had them all her life. She did not like any of the hairball solutions that you could buy but she would eat regular vaseline. I would put it on my finger and she would lick it off. It helped but did not cure the problem. AND I don't know how vaseline affects a diabetic cat. Obviously a Himalayan is going to have major hairball issues anyway. I had to brush her a lot. I saw a "Furminator" bruch or comb at the pet store the other day. I don't know how well it works since my cats now do not have much of a problem with hairballs but if I still had my Himalayan, I would certainly try it because it looked like it really got down to business with fur. Good luck!

Thanks underdawg! Your cat pic is cute! We have the furminator and it is the best ever. We are only allowed to brush Heidi every once in a while and she sheds so much. Maguai is a black and white cat that does not shed much so if I cannot get Heidi to sneak some hairball treats then I will try the Vaseline only with her. Thank you for the suggestion!
