Hey! My kitty is diet-controlled but he just threw up some blood while trying to get up a hairball. He's been working on the hairball for a little while but hasn't had any success. He's acting fine though. I haven't noticed him eating but I haven't been looking either. He drinks very little since getting his blood sugar under control so I haven't seen him drink either.

Are you sure it's a hairball? I think I read somewhere once that sometimes a cat working on a hairball can look the same as a cat trying to breath with asthma.
You could give him a little vaseline to help him if it's a hairball. I'm glad he's acting fine and hope he gets that hairball up and out of there.

Finally talked to our vet and she said it was probably okay, just that if he's been trying to get up a hairball for awhile that the heaving can eventually burst a little blood vessel. She recommended trying to get him to eat and then giving him some mineral oil. She felt pretty good about it since he was acting fine.

ETA: I'm pretty confident it's a hairball, he's doing the same thing that he always does when he throws them up.
