Gypsy is only 5 yrs old, 12 lbs, female calico. She was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with diabetes. Her numbers were 257 and 3+ from the urine sample. She has been limping (her right front leg) for 3 weeks. The vet did a complete X-ray and exam of both legs, paws etc and found nothing. He also gave me Dasuquin to give her 2x's a day. I have started her diet change and also started her on Dia-ionx. The Dia-ionx has relieved Gypsy's diabetes systoms and she seems a little more alert and up and around. I was able to find a vet who will come to the house. She is coming to the house tomorrow as a 2nd opinion and to recheck Gypsy's blood and urine. Gypsy is totally stressed and out of control when taken to the vets. I wanted to see what her new numbers and new urine numbers are before starting the insulin.

I have checked and recheked her leg, paw, shoulder, toes and nothing. Her foot is pink and cool. She won't even walk down the stairs. Can this be from the diabetes? She's an inside cat and does not go out. The next step if its not the diabetes is an MRI. Has anyone experienced this with their kitties?

Thank you for all your help.

Is she walking on her hocks? where is looks like she is flat footed and not on her toes? Does she need to rest as she walks? If yes, these are signs of diabetic neuropathy and vitamin B12- methycobalamin combined with insulin regulation is how you treat this.

Typically both front or rear legs are affected and in some cases all four legs are affected. you mentioned that it's only one leg/paw. ARe you sure?

Mix one capsule into wet food and water once daily. Whatever the body doesn't need will be peed out and if other cats eat the food, it won't hurt them.

If this isn't the situation, then she could have hurt herself, got bitten by an insect, etc and needs to be examined by a vet specialist, if your regular didn't find anything, maybe an xray - to see if there is anything broken or fractured.

I am curious what is Dia-ionx. Never heard of this and would like to know how this treats diabetes.

Mieke: It does not appear that the medication in your link contains Methycobalamin (a form of vitamin B12). Methylcobalamin is the only supplement I have read about on this board that others say has actually worked in reversing the diabetic neuropathy. The link Hillary provided to vitacost.com is a brand many people use. It is $24.99 for about a 3 month's supply so maybe $8 a month or so -- pretty inexpensive, and from what I have read, and nontoxic -- since it is a vitamin. Might be worth a try in addition to what you are currently doing.

As a PS for Hillary: Here are the ingredients listed for Dia-IonX (I have not heard of this either but found this online):
The natural homeopathic ingredients used to create Dia-IonX are: Aceticum Acidum, Arsenicum Album, Bryonia, Calcarea Carbonica, Iris Versicolor, Kali Phosphoricum, Lacticum Acidum, Lycopodium Clavatum, Natrum Phosphoricum, Phosphoricum Acidum, Phosphorus, Plumbum Metallicum, Uranium Nitricum
