Hi everyone! Hope you’re doing well, miss yas! I haven’t stopped lurking around here, can’t help but still feel a strong connection to this community I had been waiting to post this on the 18th because that’s when his OTJ trial ended, but it dawned on me that the 5th of March was his last drop of insulin! Yesterday marked 6 months OTJ and he’s going strong with all but 1 reading between 50-60! That one reading that wasn’t, was 45!!! Just wanted to pop in, say hi from Gus and I, and give a quick update! Hope you are all are doing well! Miss chatting with you! (I’m sure I missed some tags - sorry if I missed ya!!) @Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee @carfurby @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom @Sue and Luci @FrostD @Rainbow Conti @Ashleigh & Ares
Thinking my tags didn’t work.. unless y’all are ignoring me which I highly doubt! Please tell me how things are going, what’s new and exciting!? @Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee @carfurby @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom @Sue and Luci @FrostD @Rainbow Conti @Ashleigh & Ares
Look at that happy kitty! And correct, tags didn't work, at least for me. Nothing new or exciting with Mr Kitty, which is exactly how I like it I'm sure his little body is working on the next curveball to throw me, so I'll enjoy the relative peace while I can,!
Hi Kim, Hi Gus! i just got this tag, so no, nobody was ignoring Can't believe its been so long he has been OTJ! that is awesome, i hope he never has to go back on the sauce! He is looking so happy!! we miss you too!
I didn't get the tag until today. I'm glad Gus is doing well OTJ. Love the pictures. Furball is doing good.
Just got the tag myself! Look at how good Gus is doing! I hope you're enjoying some me time now! Miss you hanging around dont be a stranger
Melissa, aren't u about to have a baby!? well maybe not this soon. i didnt think Gus had been OTJ for 6 mos already though! @FrostD
I had to sit here and try to remember how pregnant I am LOL almost 7 months, so still some time to go. Due date is early/mid November. I can't decide if the last 6 months have been long or short...the OTJ party feels like a distant memory!
Honestly, I can’t believe it either, still feels like yesterday, tbh. Lol… I still have everything in the same place test kit, hypokit (why?), syringes, lancets, gave away a few lantus pens but still have 3 in the fridge… I still do weekly testing (I know I don’t have to) but I don’t want him to totally forget - you know.. just incase… and not gonna lie - if he looks at me funny, I test, lol - overprotective momma here.. Ares is still looking good, holding steady <3
Happy to hear Furball is doing good! I miss my (and so many others) daily cheerleader! I looked forward to your daily comment meant a lot to me <3
Why do you doubt that we are all ignoring you? That's exactly what we decided to do but you won't stop tagging us! JK! If you edit a post to add tags, the tagged person doesn't get alerts. Were you able to resist the urge to recheck? He looks unbearably cute and so solemn here! What's he asking for? I think of you and Gus every time I see @Angela & Cleo 's spreadsheet. The same kind of unpredictable bobbing up and down till he suddenly decided he is done.
I am enjoying some me time but it’s still all on his time.. lol. Gosh I left the house the other day for dinner with a few friends, I don’t think I’ve done that in over a year probably more because Covid … was gone for maaaaybe 5-6 hours and boooy didn’t I get heck when I got home! He yelled at me and wouldn’t stop for a good hour.
I knew it!!! Persistence is key!!! Lol That’s actually exactly what happened, figure ppl don’t stop by this part do the forum often so added tags afterwards! I so badly wanted to but for different reasons this time! I couldn’t believe my eyes! This was actually taken before a test.. and backed by a kinda funny story. I wanted to sleep in one morning so I set a later alarm (using his old insulin alarm setting - which was ducks quacking) I ended up waking up earlier than the alarm and was making coffee when it went off …Gus popped his head around the corner looking into the kitchen and I went back to making my coffee. All of a sudden there was Gus walking over to his testing spot and sitting very patiently … no joke, 4months later and he still conditioned to walk to his test spot when he hears ducks. So I took a pic but long story to answer your question, it was the before test treat he was reaching for Heres the after pic <3
Yeah, I would not have seen the post but for the tags Pavlov's cat! LOL How's Ruby doing? Let's see a pic of her as well!
every time i think if Ares ever gets there, i would do the same. 1x per week aint bad! U aren't alone!
She’s good, still a cranky old lady. I wish I could sneak Dasuquin in her food more often but she’s got a nose on her and sniffs it out rejects it often. This is her in the middle of my bed, which I have to fight to move her every night and often she wins and I get a slice of my bed… she so tiny, I don’t get how she takes up so much room! But darn it, she gets so cute… how can I move her!?
What about the soft chews? I know they're high carb but she's not diabetic. I give Budge (high carb) chews for her arthritis. Have you looked at Cartrophen? Weekly shots for a month and then monthly shots. SubQ so you can give them at home just like insulin. "With great cuteness comes no responsibility!" She looks like a more mischievous version of Bandit
I know right?! Didn’t even leave a light on for him.. bad momma! LM, somebody’s gotta pay the bills! Unless you wanna pick up a part time job..? These freeloaders! Sheesh!
I haven’t tried the soft chews but I will look into them, might be worth a try. The only treats she’s ever really liked were Greenies though - poor girl - Gus makes it hard for her to have fun… no greenies, no dry (she used to be a kibble addict but I’m happy with this change), her have toy is a hair elastic or rubber band but Gus will eat them so they’re locked up… maybe that’s why she’s so grumpy.. I might have to go the injection route. Was reading about Solensia and will probably ask my vet about it - will also ask about Cartrophen too, thanks for the suggestion!
Younger siblings have been put on this earth to fart in the joy of older ones. (No prizes for guessing which one I am!)
I didn't get the tag either, that us so funny a about the duck alarm and Gus walking over to his testing spot. He's so adorable, It was good to hear from you and Gus
Honestly, @Bandit's Mom response made me spit out my coffee this morning, lol Yea, she’s pretty cute when no one is watching .. but the moment someone else is around, she puts her guard up. That’s why I have to get pic and videos to be like seeeeee, she can be sweet! She was adopted by me from my friend and old roommate (who got engaged to someone who didn’t like cats - first red flag - and she was not very socialized as a small kitten - her old owner worked over nights and didn’t social much himself with day time ppl..
Ya, he’s doing really well - so proud of him! Just did his weekly (tho I did do one a few nights ago…) he was 56 How’s Hendrick doing?????
i just happened to stumble upon the chews at a store and she looooves them! The problem is, they don’t always have them.. like, it was a one off that I found them, I’ll have to find them some how, somewhere and hope they aren’t too pricey… these were $6 - but it’s like a rotating stock Amazon surplus store.
Both Budge and Bandit LOVE the Glycolfex chews. Budge gets them every day for her arthritis. Bandit gets it as a treat whenever she is swimming with the sharks.
So far I’ve only found those at the shops near me (the Glycoflex brands so good to know they both like them) so I may have to try her on those next, right now Im using the cosequin ones.
He's doing great you'd think the diabetes never even happened. Just yesterday did a once-a-month BG test and I was very pleased that he sat perfectly still for me, I did it quickly and easily 1st go -- and he was at 79.
That’s so great Go Hendrick! Gus is a little like ma’ do we gotta… but he’s still pretty good about the testing after that. I truly believe that they gain a trust level in us that assured them that we have to be poking them for a good reason.
Can’t believe it’s been a year already! Gus is currently celebrating with a nap, most likely followed by some food and another nap, the purrrfect day! About a week ago I found out my friends cat had diabetes, she was panicking, worried about financially being able to care for her sugar. That was when I knew it was time to hand over the 3 unopened pens I still had, dust off the almost full box of syringes, high carb canned foods, added in a small care package of wet canned food, freeze dried treats and headed over to help them with testing. I was always so nervous to get rid of his stuff (it’s all been in the same place for a year!) but this was what needed to be done, a pay it forward maybe. Gus’ 1 year remission gift was to help another, and I feel so grateful that I’m able to help.
Of course, I wouldn’t celebrate it any other way! You all are a huge (HUGE) reason I’m able to post this.
Yay Gus and such a generous gift! Yes I agree pay it forward. I have a coworker who has a cat now with diabetes. I went over to show how to test. Though she is still scared I've offered my support if she wants it
So happy for you and Gus. You both have been such an inspiration for Nestle and me during our journey. Cheers to many, many more! Nestle and Peanut are sending lots of kisses (licks) and PAWsitive vibes.
I love that so much Hope you and the gang are well, Gus says, ‘backatcha‘ Thanks Carla, it felt great and like I didn’t have a choice but to help out . Hope you are doing well.
