It's been two weeks since I've checked in... AGAIN! I'm hopeless!
Though I did work full time during that break, with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so I've been exhausted. And now, even more so!

Gremlin broke a tooth three days ago. It resulted in an emergency after hours vet visit. He was given an antibiotic injection and sent home. I called my usual vet clinic the next day but his vet wasn't on that day. The vet on duty prescribed him some Buprenorphine so he's been on that since. His last dose is in 11 hours/ tomorrow morning. I was expecting Grem's vet to call me today to discuss options but I didn't hear. Hopefully when she calls tomorrow I'm not too busy at work as I'm in the office on my own tomorrow. (I'm in Australia.)

Basically, I don't know if Grem is going to survive this. I don't want him in pain and he can't stay on those painkillers for the rest of his life. His vet has said for a long time that any more surgery is a no go. His chances of surviving are not great. Considering how much he has declined this year, his chances grow smaller all the time. His last blood tests came back almost perfect! But his vision is bad, I think his hearing is going, he's losing weight, and has cognitive dysfunction. As well as diabetes and hypertension.

I'm so anxious and upset. After everything, I can't lose my Gremmy-bear over a broken tooth!! :(

I hope you can talk to the vet today. There have been cats that have taken painkillers for a long time. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

It's evening here, I'm sure she will call tomorrow to discuss his options.

Grem is already on Meloxicam daily for his arthritis for over a year now. The painkillers given to him for his teeth are an opioid and I don't think that is any good long term. Plus it's super expensive.

Which tooth is it that got broken? And can you recall how long it’s been since he’s had a dental Cleaning and if he had any extractions at that time due to what are called resorptive lesions?

His last dental was four or five years ago. He just needed a clean, no extractions. They have refused to do a dental on him the last few years and have only performed life saving operations. He has 4 out of 4 stage dental disease. The tooth that broke is a back one.

POST COPIED FROM TODAY - 17/11

I have finally spoken to Susan, the vet. Definitely no surgery for him, but there's a chance he'll be able to live happily even with a broken tooth. I have more painkiller options if needed (aside from Meloxicam which will never stop) but it will be a matter of judging his quality of life on a regular basis. I'll take him in to be checked in a couple of weeks. For now, he's doing so well that Susan is happy to see how he goes over time. Even another month of quality life would be amazing!
