Hello to all! We are very bad LL alumni and we haven't visited from the falls in too long! First the good news: Simon is doing well. Recent vet visit turned up normal bloodwork (I thought he might be ill because he was fussing so much for food). We lost Molly, our calico, in October to kidney failure. I decided that Simon might just need a new cat in his life to take his mind of his feeding schedule--so we adopted Jasper last week. He's 4 months old and was born in a feral colony. A college student did trap-neuter-return on the parents and brought the kittens indoors at 4 weeks. He is a real love bug. Whether he will be a buddy or a roommate remains to be seen! Simon is kind to him and does not ask for food all day anymore. So I guess that's mission accomplished.

To make a long story short, I'm trying to find out if I can just feed Jasper the same stuff Simon eats and keep it simple. I was already on the path of feeding wet food thanks to all of our FD days!!

Here's my post about in health if you have any info to add.

I miss chatting with everyone. It's so crazy to see how all the kitties change! I guess the oldtimers know how that happens. Please know we are ever grateful for your help and that we are enjoying the bonus time with our FD kitty!

Hi Kim

Great to see you and Simon!! And I'm so very sorry to hear about Molly

You can feed a kitten the same food...the %carbs don't matter but what does matter is a kitten should NOT have a low phosphorus diet. Kittens need phosphorus for development so when you are choosing low carb foods, don't pick low phosphorus foods.

You should allow a kitten to eat as much as he wants...don't restrict his calories until he gets older...10-11 months.

We fed Tobey Natures Variety Instinct canned food as a kitten and he did very well on it. I transitioned him to Wellness when he got a little older because he decided he got bored with the NV

Take care and share some photos of the new little guy when you can :-D :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hi Marje! Great info! I feed FF which is not low Phos but I had rotated in some others as Molly was declining. I don't know if the phosphorus mattered at that point. She went downhill fast between August and October, but she was happy and purring until the last few days

Jasper is an orange and white boy and I will totally be putting up pics on Caturday!

So. . .where is the edit button anyway? Am I totally nuts? It isn't there!!! confused_cat

Aw, heck, i'll post the pics now.

OMG! He is soooo adorable!!! I love his facial markings :-D :-D :-D

Yes...you would restrict phosphorus for an adult cat with CKD but not a kitten. Just check Dr. Lisa's food charts :-D

Hi Kim,
Good to hear from you and to know that Simon is doing well. We are very sorry to hear about Molly. The new kitten is so cute. What a lucky boy he is to have landed with you. Simon, you have a new responsibilty!!

Happy Holidays! Don't be a stranger!

Ella & Rusty

Congratulations on on Simon maintaining his real estate at the Falls and on the new addition! He's just adorable. Kittens waste absolutely no time getting comfy.

Gizmo was about 6 mos. old when Gabby was diagnosed. They were being fed the same food and Gizmo is doing just fine! I was going nuts trying to feed them different foods until someone here pointed out they would do just fine on the same food and I wouldn't have to be the nasty policewoman.

Awwwwww!!!!! Congrats on the little cutie patooty!

I'm so sorry about your sweet Molly, though. I'm very glad to hear Simon is enjoying life at the falls!!!

We're anxious to see even more pics of your new baby!!!

Great to hear from everyone! We will stop by on a caturday soon  thanks for the fuds advice! And seriously, the new food chart is the cat's meow  we even found a few new flavors for Simey.
