Does anybody know about the amount of carbs in the Greenie feline treats? I know they are a dry treat and am wondering if they could be used as a 'quick' sugar if a cat goes low.

Thanks!

The regular Greenies are very high in carbs, and they are going to hit a cat's BG the same way dry food will, which means it will take longer to raise blood sugar and stay in the system longer. What's best for "quick" sugar is high carb canned food. Most foods with gravy are high carb, raise blood sugar pretty quickly, but they usually are out of their system within 5-10 hrs. I used small amounts of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers foods if Bandit dropped a bit low. If you have an emergency where you instantly need to raise blood sugar (e.g. a dangerously low number, not just a little low), Honey, Karo syrup, and ice cream are all very quick sugar fixes to start out with.

If you ever need Greenies for pill pockets, there is a low carb flavor but I think they only make it in the dog sized bags now (but the dog and cat pill pockets are the same, just in different sized bags)--it's the Duck & Pea formula.
