Hi all - Fester's coat is usually immaculate, but twice now I have noticed that his tail gets very greasy very suddenly (think stud tail) before a high glucose reading. This seems to happen before any behavioral change. I would be curious to know if anyone has noticed dramatic coat changes preceding a particularly high reading in their cat?

My sugar kitty, Cleo's whole coat (not just tail) gets greasy and flaky when her numbers run on the high side. She had that for about a year before she was diagnosed. My DH used to call her 'oil slick  " After she spends some time in healing numbers, the flakes and greasy coat resolve.
Her coat is starting to clear up right now. Amazing what this disease can do to our babies!
Have a good night~

Oh wow, that's how Nino's coat has been. So that's why, hoping it clears up once we get him under control!

Yep, Mikey's coat gets coarse and/or greasy when he runs in higher numbers for more than a cycle or two. It clears up pretty fast, though, once he starts getting back into better numbers again.

Same here! His coat clears up very rapidly when his numbers improve. He had a sebaceous cyst on his tail in the past, so I clipped the hair to make it easier to wash. Following what my vet did, I also clip his left or right shoulder area, which makes giving his insulin shots a breeze. It also helps me to remember to alternate locations so he doesn't get sore.
Cheers!
