? gray fur

I never though to bring this up but been thinking about it and wonder if anyone has had the same experience. Shortly after Beenie was diagnosed in May we noticed a patch of gray fur on her side. Since May it has spread so much. She has grayed so much in a short amount of time.
Have any other kitties out there grayed from FB? Should I be concerned?
 
I have no knowledge about Grey hair in cats ... sorry. I can tell you that when I switched Radar to meat from kibble that his coat got silky and soft again like when he was a kitten. :cat:
 
Could it be something to do with her undercoat showing where you could not see it before? I know that's a bit of a stretch but we have a cat with a tiny beard that is the only black on him. I always threaten to scrub it off him!

Thank you. I'm going to read about it now:bookworm:. She has Siamese in her for sure. Didn't think it was anything to worry about and kind of assumed it was all FD related. Will let vet now on Monday for his feedback as well. She's due to see him soon to get blood work done.
 
Same cat with the beard was a neighborhood stray when he came into our lives. He must have walked past some wet yellow paint at one point, took months for it to disappear. Thankfully he never groomed himself there, who knows what was in that paint, if that's what it was.

Is it where you inject anything?

Body temp determines a Siamese (genetic Siamese) color. Not to be confused with points.

The hotter that part of the cat, the lighter the fur. That's how the points evolve. Farthest away from heart, coolest parts of the body.

A Siamese will often get fever mask.

With your cat being a snowshoe, the piebald gene changes the color/ temp/ point information. A snowshoe is less likely to get fever mask, will darken with age and can come in all point colors.

Injury that made the skin cooler or hotter?
 
My siamese cats' coats all change color between seasons to both lighter and darker especially when they start shedding a lot. It becomes quite a difference in color. Not sure if that's what's happening but just throwing it out there.

No not injection site. Along both of her sides is where it grayed and very fast. No injury there either. She is shedding a lot so I wonder if its more white coming through because of the excessive shedding than gray?!? Hmmmm

She is definitely shedding more than usual. My other snowshoe isn't shedding like her. So now I wonder if its an undercoat of white showing through than actually graying.

When Coby was diagnosed and unregulated, he lost a lot of fur. Once his sugar was under control, his fur started to grow back. His new fur always come in white then gradually turn brown but it doesn't come in patches though.
 
Ahh a simple search helped me find this Beenie!
Chuck is also turning gray all over his torso. His head and tail don't seem to be changing. The info on the warmth changing the color is very interesting. He is some sort of Siamese mix. Blue crossed eyes and has color points.

Oh my goodness I don't feel so alone anymore:bighug:
Beenie has definitely grayed even more since I brought this topic up. Her too, only the torso. As far as the warmth I wonder if her body temp is running higher than normal? I put a cat heating pad next to her favorite cardboad box thinking she would like to lay on some heat once in a while. She doesn't. Before she became ill she would always seek out warm spots, whether it be in the sun or there is one area of the kitchen floor that has pipes running underneath and it gets warm to the touch. That was always a favorite spot for her too. I've tried every cat bed style for her to sleep and hang out in and she only wants the carboard. I'm thinking to keep her feeling cool? All so strange. The FD or acro or something is causing it. My other civvie who is the same age as her and has siamese in him as well has no such graying happening. When they were kittens there coats were very light almost gray in color until it got darker as they got older.

Did it happen quickly for Chuck or was it gradual?
 
I noticed it after we started insulin. His fur was not very healthy before. But it did seem pretty quick that we started seeing him turn gray. He was always seeking out cool places to sleep in. Always in front of the AC and on the tile floor.
He was almost all cream/white as a kitten. He's a dark gray color on his back and head. Very dark tail. Now he's getting what I call "old man gray"...

Same with Beenie. So weird. My vet had no clue either. I'm guessing it must have to do with the insulin then and that they have Siamese in them.
