Wondering if anyone on the forums has a recipe for making HC gravy for their kitties?? We have someone in the L&L forum that the kitty is throwing up whenever she feeds gravy and of course she is only feeding gravy because BG is low and she is trying to bring the numbers up.... just wondering if there is a recipe that she could try and maybe freeze in ice cube tray for when she needs it???

I've never had luck freezing ice cubes of kitty gravy. It dries out quickly in the freezer and develops a weird texture.
I then went to making a very condensed plain chicken broth and freezing that in ice cube trays. It only takes a few minutes to melt 1 tbsp of butter, add 1 tbsp of flour, brown, then add two cubes of the condensed plain chicken broth.

Usually if we see a cat is unable to eat the "gravy", we suggest using a few drops of Karo/honey/syrup on top of a little regular food....but the simple sugars wear off as quickly as they work so it's even more important that they continue to test until it's been at least 2 hours from the last time they had to use it

Chris... its Carol and Murphy over in L&L... and he has been throwing that up too... she has been trying everything to keep him up... i was just wondering if a homemade gravy would stay down for him... she has tried the karo/honey/syrup... i think she is even trying sugar in gel caps... cause he really wont keep it down

Thank you, Amber, for posting this. My Murphy has IBD and eating issues - for the past 4-5 times I have needed to bring him up, he has vomited after feeding gravy, after giving him karo, maple syrup, honey - anything I use, he ends up 1) vomiting the entire contents of his stomach first and then 2) after even small amounts of honey, syrup, on his gums, he throws up (more dry heaves) as well - So I am left with a cat going hypo with a completely empty stomach that won't keep anything down. I discussed with my vet, who is herself diabetic, and she said hypoglycemia, even quickly falling numbers (which is mostly Murphy's problem) can result in severe nausea. The last two times, at the first hint I was going to need to bring him up, I've given him a gel cap with zolfran and then filled with sugar and pill him. He's kept those down but I don't think this is really a good long term solution. Hence, Amber's request about a gravy recipe.
