Hi everyone.... Does anyone know where I can purchase. Prozinc? I have no idea. myvet said the bottle they gave us was $120 ..... Thanks

I thought you could only get it from the vet. I know I purchased PZI by mail from a lab in Texas. Maybe ask in the PZI forum how all of them get their Prozinc?

Hi,

I buy my ProZinc from the vet at $103 per vial. I've read that Costco carried it, but my local one (S. California) does not. If you're careful with the vial (not shaking it, refrigerating properly, not dropping it, etc.), it lasts months rather than just the 28 days after opening it, as stated by my vet's staff. Do check the expiration date before purchasing it and ask for one with about a year's duration.

We started Jan 13th w/ a bottle from the vet - $120 I think. I'm just now getting to the point that I will be getting another bottle soon. Guessing I've got about 10 more doses worth, but it's going much faster now that I'm shooting larger doses (4.5u).

If I recall correctly PZI is compounded at a pharmacy; while Prozinc is available only from vets, as it is designed specifically for veterinary use. I'd be curious to hear where people have gotten it from, other than their vet.

Are you looking for an alternative place to buy ProZinc other than from the vet? Drs.FosterandSmith.com has it: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=9547+18707+9790&pcatid=9790

1-800-PetMeds also has it: http://www.1800petmeds.com/ProZinc+Cat+Insulin-prod11139.html

And at VetRxDirect.com: http://www.vetrxdirect.com/product/view/prozinc

A prescription from your vet is required to buy from an online pharmacy.

If you buy online, remember to buy insulin syringes as well. ProZinc is a U40 insulin so you will need to buy U40 insulin syringes.

Some people use U100 insulin syringes instead with **the dose conversion chart** but do not do this until you become more comfortable with managing your cat's diabetes and understand the conversion chart.

The first bottle of Prozinc I bought from the vet was $130.00 but it lasted for 1 year and was good to the last drop.

The second bottle I asked for a script and told the vet I could buy it at Costco for $75.oo and the vet price matched. It was worth a try and paid off.

That was sneaky but at least it worked and your vet didn't question it

As an FYI to Catlady38 and other newbies, you cannot buy ProZinc (an animal specific insulin) at Costco or at any other Human pharmacy.

THANK YOU ALL.... I WILL CHECK WITH MY VET.... THANKS.... AND SEE WHAT THE SIGHTS SAY....I STILL (sorry about caps) have a little less than a half a bottle but he gets 4 to 5 units twice a day... Tracy

Actually my Costco does have it, it needs to be ordered 3 days in advance and sells for $75.00.

I wasn't bluffing, it was worth a try because my Costco is about 20 miles away and with the gas prices I didn't want to make the drive.

A little more than a year ago one of us PZI'ers heard that Costco was going to test selling pet meds so we all checked with our Costco's, some do sell it and some do not. At least check with your Costco like I did, you don't need a membership to use the pharmacy.
