Ok. So I got Rocky in to see a vet yesterday afternoon. Not Callie Mae's vet, I tried a new one since I wasn't to impressed with the way he handled her dx.

The vet did dx Rocky with FD and told me to start him on 3 units twice a day. Well, just from my short time here, I believe that is to much. That's the first thing that leaves a bad taste.
Secondly, I was under the impression that for a proper dx, a vet does some kind of test other than a bg test. I mean, I already know where his #'s are from doing my own tests. He told me a fructosamine test would only give him an overall look or average of where his numbers would have been over the course of a period of time, and that it wasn't necessary to do that. I had expressed concern that it could be possible that his bg was high because maybe he had something else going on. He didn't seem to think I should be to concerned about that.
At any rate, I didn't want to start him on any insulin last night because I had to get up early for work and wouldn't be able to get in any spot checks to keep an eye on him. I started him tonight, but only on .5 units.
His pmps was 269.

He was around the same in the vet's office yesterday, which to me sounds weird. You would think his #'s would have been higher. He's been hovering around there since I started checking him on the 18th.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yea! I'm very glad you got him to the vet. I think you did the right thing by starting at only .5U. Which insulin is it? Rocky's number is pretty low and maybe he will do well on a low dose like that.

You're testing, so you know the important parts. You're feeding him the right food, which is probably part of the reason his BG has come down some before the insulin.

Is it mandatory to get a fructosamine? No, but it's recommended. Gandalf was diagnosed without it, but they told me his level was over 600. I'm pretty sure they did a urine check too, so there was undoubtedly sugar in his urine. Did you tell the vet you had checked that too? Maybe that's why he decided no on the fructosamine.

You did the right thing! :RAHCAT

Thanks for the response.
No, I didn't tell him anything except that I had done some tests at home. Told him about his weight loss and water intake. Didn't want him to think I was a "vet wannabe" if you know what I mean. Maybe he checked his urine. When we got to the office, they took us in a room, then a tech came and got him,to be weighed and whatnot. There's no telling what all they did when he was gone. They didn't bring him back for about 10 minutes. I just know on the receipt, I was charged for a "wellness exam" an blood glucose (in house) and a rabies shot. County ordinance requires them to give the vaccine if there is no record of last shot. He may be up to date, but I am not sure and have no paperwork to prove it otherwise, so he got it. But that's all that was on the receipt, so in all fairness, I can't say what all they did to him. He did know my financial situation, so he may have just been doing what was the absolute most necessary and left it at that.
His +2 was 233. I might only be able to get in a +4 before bed. Managed to squeeze another day of work out of my manager, so unless I see a drastic drop at the next spot check, I'm going to bed after that.

Glad you got him to a vet, and started him on a nice low dose of insulin. Since you already have testing down and are feeding him good food, he should start feeling much better, and will probably be hiding less. Thank you for helping the little guy out...You Rock!

Mel, Maxwell and the Fur Gang.

Glad you got to a vet and got a diagnosis. They diagnosed Tarragon from his bg, which was over 600. About 100 of that was probably due to stress from being at the vet. However, they also did a urine test which took a couple of days to get back.
