Goodie stop eating- 3 days ago blockage suspected...

Goodie has been diet controlled OTJ for about a year (second time).
Her numbers have been very good, I continue testing every so often to monitor. For example last week morning she was 77.
Additionally we completed her semiannual bloodwork and she was good even her fructosimine.

Well; the night before last she had a hairball-like vomiting episode (no hairball though) and then again in the morning yesterday. After the second one she stop eating and drinking. No food at all in 24hrs. Almost no water. She is very into her routine and that worries me a lot. I don't think she is dehydrated yet, but of course we don't want to wait until she gets there. At the same time I don't want to take her into the vet if I don't need to yet. Goodie's trips to the vet stressed her out incredibly. We have an at-home mobile vet that usually does her bloodwork and such, but she is out of town. Should I wait one more day? The vet close by opens Sat and Sun. I also have a vet tech pet sitter that may be able to come by and help me get some fluids to her today.
Any thoughts??

I forgot to mention, Goodie is 14 yrs old. And her BG this morning had gone up to 179 - which I assume is because she has not eaten....

thanks

UPDATE
We ended up going to the vet on Sunday and after an xray, there was suspicion of blockage and they did a barium series.
It looks like whatever was seating in the small intestine (vet suspects fabric???) it was now moving and was at the large intestine.
Vet send us home with laxative hoping for it to work its way out by this afternoon when we are coming back for a follow up xray.
Goodie slept all afternoon yesterday as they gave her pain meds. And she did have a bowel mov. not sure if whatever was there was the mystery fabric...
However, as of 5am this morning she still had not eaten. I started syringe feeding this morning her FF. She seems better, but still not interested in food.
She is drinking water and she had another smaller bowel mov. but I am concerned about the not eating part. The vet felt that she would feel better today.
We are due to be at the vet office by 5pm so hopefully i will have fed her about 3/4 of a can by then...
Anyone has experience with a suspected blockage?

Re: Goodie stop eating and drinking 24 hrs ago

I do not know what to suggest but i thought I would post a reply to get this back to the top so others can see. Maybe someone will be able to help soon. I have given my cats some water with a liquid medicine dispenser that you can buy in any drug store. Just a thought so that you didn't need the vet tech.

I was wondering if you had changed her food lately and maybe she has some allergy to the food. I tried to switch my cats to Fancy Feast classic and one of them threw up when i gave them the beef food. I had to add probiotics to the food so they would not throw up during the change to new food but that didn't help much with the one that threw up beef. There is something that can be added to food to make it more appealing - Flora something i think. I have not used it but it has been listed on this board.

This is the time of year for hairballs, unfortunately. If there is enough hair in her stomach, she will not want to eat. It is quite possible that she is having a hard time passing one. There are a couple ways to deal with this at home for a diabetic cat. Put like a 1/2 tsp of mineral oil in her food twice a day for 2-3 days and put a good smear of vaseline on her paw three times a day for three days. This will help with hairballs in the tummy and in the colon. You will probably have to syringe feed her, or give her some really tasty stuff to get her to eat in the beginning. Once the hairballs start passing, then her appetite should come back. Cats should not go for more than 24 hours without eating because of the risk for fatty liver (hepatic lipidosis), which can be a deadly condition.

FortiFlora is a probiotic which is used to get cats to eat and improve intestinal health.

You can buy online or from a vet, I believe; I got mine from Amazon.com.

Not trying to scare you, but another thing to consider is that if a cat gets pancreatitis they may stop eating. (I'm currenlt ynursing my second cat with pancreatitis.) If the other remedies suggested here don't work, a trip to the vet may be in order.

EDIT: Nausea and vomiting can go hand in paw with pancreatitis.

Were the stools that passed hard and dry, or soft and/or loose?

And if the former hard/dry, a question to ask the vet - would an enema be of any assistance in helping things move out? (to add fluid and/or stimulate muscle contraction).

very soft almost diarrhea.
The only foreign "fabric" we can think she ate is some loose synthetic filling of a pillow that the young kitties broke into.
If so, i don't expect it to be "hard" coming out.
I am planning to bring a sample of the filling to the vet later.

Are there any veterinary specialty/university locations near you that might be able to do an endoscopic search & retrieval attempt?
If it doesn't continue moving, that or surgery will be the only ways I can think of to remove it.

Poor baby!
