i noticed tonight that when i pet Timber i don't feel his spine sticking out like i used to. he lost a LOT of weight before we got his diagnosis and it was like petting his spine. i assume this is a good thing? that he's absorbing the nutrients from his food again?? or am i just being too optimistic?? ;-)

Yes! Since you see and touch Timber everyday it is harder to notice small changes, but if all of a sudden you notice something different than that shows that there probably has been a change. Congrats to Timber for gaining weight!

It can be helpful to pick up a baby scale, maybe from a 2nd hand shop, Craigslist, or E-bay if you don't want to spend much. One that measures in both pounds and kilograms and down to onces/ grams, wouldwork well.

Note that a 3 oz or so variance is possible due to defecation  !

Its great to track these things as it helps you really know whats going on, especially if there is an issue later on. I weigh my boys every few weeks and track it. When first diagnosed I also tracked their pee patch sizes and how much they ate and drank. And of course their Blood glucose levels... that was very useful with Tiggy as I saw a long slow trend towards remission.

Sounds optimistic though.
