I called the vet today.

Turns out, the vet said he sounds like his insulin levels are getting better. The thing that has got him down is a urinary tract infection. The found it when the did a curve a couple of weeks ago and since there are three doctors on staff, it got lost ion the shuffle. Not too happy that no one told me but better than I was expecting. Picking up his clavamox tomorrow and then doing a quick test while I am there. Cant stay too long with mom. His eating and a little improvement to his legs says to the doctor apprently hes starting to get a little better. Not regulated but better.

Are UTI's common with diabetic kitties?

Thanks for your help guys

I don't know if UTI's are common with diabetics, but that's another good reason to add some water to the food. I'm glad they at least defined the problem so you can work on getting Jack back to better days. I hope you feel better soon, too!

Im getting better little by little. Ill be glad to get Jack feeling better. I cant believe they didnt tell us to begin with by that explains why hes going off by himself. Still havent gotten the Methyl b12 though :(

Thanks for the kind words

Ah, geez. Poor Jack. That is a heck of a thing to get lost in the shuffle. Sheesh.

Glad to hear he is getting better. However, I still suggest you check on those potassium levels....

Anyway, yes, UTI's are very common in cats that pass glucose in their urine. The extra sugar within the tract becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.

Also, my cat used to be fine on Clavamox, but now it causes her to vomit within the first couple of days (and she never vomits). If that is the case with Jack, Baytril might do the trick without the tummy upset.

Please do keep us informed on Jack's progress.

DZ and Sarah
