So, I was reading the human BG monitors are inaccurate, but the animal BG monitors are super expensive. A dollar a test strip? These guys to be on crack. What's the best option here?

Sorry you had to wait this long for a reply, it's usually much quicker but the board has been a little quieter than usual over the last few days.
If you're in the US then the usual recommendation is the Relion Prime or Relion Premier from Walmart. They have the best priced test strips, just under $18 for 100.
If you're in a different country let us know and we may be able to make alternative suggestions.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I've been doing some reading... they say the human meters don't work as well as the feline meters... is that true? What's your feeling on that?

Most of us use human meters, and the dosing protocol is based on human meters. So you just go ahead and buy a human meter. No feline meter is in a decent price range.
It's not a matter of a human meter being inaccurate. Human meters and pet meters are calibrated a bit differently. The pet meters read a bit higher than a human meter. The vets tend to like the pet meters since they are similar to a serum chemistry analyzer that gives them the lab results when they send out for lab tests.
The reality is that most vets used human meters before pet specific meters became more widely available. All of the dosing methods we use here are base on human meters since that's what's been available since FDMB started and most people can't afford the strips for a pet meter.
