Hi,
What do you think about Hank's numbers on ProZinc so far? I'm going to do a curve today and also will test at +5 and +7 to find the nadir. I know, I probably need to up it but have been wanting to go slow. I had my daughter in town from last Sunday evening till this morning so didn't want to try anything new while she was here. Just playing it careful that's all. I've read too many hypo stories on this forum. If I could just get Hank to eat wet food I know his numbers would come down even more. Argh! I think I will also switch his shot time to 5 and 5 instead of 6:30 and 6:30 but not sure when. Thank you for any and all help.

Looks like he got some good yellow numbers yesterday! Sort of flattened out at the PMPS but maybe that's because he's still settling into his new food schedule (??). I'm curious to check back later and see how the curve goes. Looks like a pretty good dip from the AMPS to the +2 so depending on the rest of the day's numbers I suppose he could bounce. Bailey bounced on ProZinc a bit -- my fault for starting out a too high and also, I think, from doing a sliding scale on the dosage. I think it was just a matter of settling in. In my limited experience, I found that keeping a steady dose for a few days (and then only making gradual changes) eventually stopped the major bounciness.

You're doing a great job keeping up with home testing! And at least you have Hank on a healthier kibble until he comes around to the wet food. I'm sure that's helping his numbers too. Patience and persistence. That stubborn personality is part of why we love our cats, right? ;-)

Nice yellows yesterday :-D you and Hank are getting closer to greens. Its all a process.

I'll respond to this thread as to the feeder. I have the petsafe 5, they also have a 2 compartment feeder, it rotates instead of dropping down (at least the 5 does) it has 5 trays you can fill, set the timer for what ever time of day you ant it to rotate and your set. I THINK the 2 compartment just lifts the lid at set times. that way even if he doesnt eat it all its not wasted and not piling up.

Ive never picked up the food after +6, the best thing is no food 2 hrs prior to testing but the main thing to think about is he's waking you so early because in his mind he's starving lol so say if you set the feeder to open at say 2:30-3 am he would be set to have a small meal after you test and shoot without the howl of "IM STARVING FED ME!" at 5 am lol. If Hank is anything like my 3, even with grazing the food would be gone with enough time to have a "real" bg. As to changing the shot time. As long as you try to stick to the 12 hrs apart your good. Thats the good thing in my opinion with prozinc, its a little more flexible....you can adjust the time a little and also you can adjust dosage to bg unlike depot insulin's. As long as your trying to stick to 5 and 5, and for the most part your on-time it would be fine I would think, just keep that in mind if say one night he gets his shot at 6 or 6:30 that bg might be slightly off in the am.

Oh no, it's not Hank waking me up! It's just me, being a "morning person". Hank doesn't yowl about it, just prancing, pacing, going to the steps, getting in my lap...doing anything and everything to get me to feed him. Again, just wondering if it would be better to change the shot time. Ok, you say that Prozinc is flexible, does that mean that shot times can be changed (if needed) daily as long as it's 12 hours apart? My work schedule varies. But like I said, for the most part the 5 and 5 would work most of the time. How do I go about changing?

Geeeee I wish my cats were like that. You'd figure they havent eaten in a week if I'm late. lol

Ok now on to changing the time.

Its not good to change it from day to day because it will really mess up your schedule what I meant is IF your late getting home once in a while its not that big of a deal as long as the numbers are still good enough to shoot. Its easier to see it this way.....say you give him his shot tonight at 7 because you were running late, that means he couldn't have his shot till about 7 that night. Then when you try to adjust the time to get back on schedule I wouldn't suggest giving his shot no earlier than a half hour earlier (once again only if bg # is ok)

What I meant with more flexible, and I should of specified better my apologies, is that with depot insulins you really have to be punctual with shot times and STICKING to that dose because of the way it works in the body, not to mention it will take several days before you can tell if a dose may be right or not. With prozinc you have the ability to adjust the amount of insulin to work with your bg #. Kinda like when Hidey was going into remission. Sometimes I had to give him more insulin in the morning than at night, and sometimes he only needed it in the morning.

Did that make any sense? lol I know what I'm trying to say but its not coming out right. Basically its best to have 2 set times 12 hrs apart and stick to that. If your a little late on day your ok. If you want to change times that you give insulin best thing to do is slowly adjust the time, maybe by 15-30 minutes.

Curve looks pretty good though :) You has several blues and a green

Looks like some good numbers today, Kimmie! Hank's nadir hit earlier than Bailey's usually does but with those nice blue numbers, it doesn't look like he's bouncing, which is good. I'm curious to see what the PMPS is. Depending on that, maybe you'll hold steady at this dosage for a while? Any one else have advice on that?

Yes, that makes sense about the insulin. I just wasn't sure how Prozinc worked. I think I'm going to stick to the 6:30 and 6:30 times for injections. It really does work best for me. I think I'll look into a feeder and/or feed at about 3-3:30pm to see if that helps. Thanks.
