My parents will be watching Heart while I'm on vacation starting tomorrow. I'm not sure how much to reduce the dose. He's had a few reductions in a short period of time, but is still going low (just now at PM +3.5 hit 40). I reduced to 2.0 already this evening, and the low 40 could be due to the shed still giving him more, but should I stick with 2.0 or have my parents give 1.5 or even 1 to stay safe?

hey hi,

when do u leave again?
can you mark it on your spreadsheet for that date?

Heart has really been doing well, very nice cycles.

If you don't get a response tonight, check back in the morning ok?

if they will not be testing, I think you need to reduce quite a bit. At the stage Heart is in right now, it is not really possible to name a dose that will definitely be safe for 9 days without testing.

Is Heart ketone prone? If not, then you might even want to consider going as low as 1 unit. You'll most likely have ground to make up when you get back, but Heart is changing too fast to suggest a higher dose than that for that long a time period. Even that could be too high, no way of knowing. Is it possible for them to test? I would feel MUCH better if they could, and you probably will too.

The question isn't if to reduce, but by how much. I don't know how much of a difference half a unit or a unit makes. My parents CAN test, but there is no way they are going to test four times a day. They already told me right off the bat to forget that. If there is a reduction that will keep Heart safe if they don't test, then I'd rather do that. Not sure if half a unit is enough of a reduction...

I would reduce to 1.0u. to 1.25u. Generally, we try to keep the dose on a tick line on the syringe for the ease of the petsitter.

If you have a question, can you please check back. We were waiting for your reply last night.

I'm sorry but it was midnight in my time zone and I had to go to bed. Have a five hour drive ahead of me today (and I get sleepy while driving) so I had to do the responsible thing for me and my husband (I'm the driver), and I'm frankly exhausted from staying up way past bedtime all week for spot checks and fussing over Heart! I was ready to go to bed by 9pm last night. Ugh.
