I remember years ago I did not like the BD. Unfortunately I did not remember until I started using them.

I like the Walgreens or the ones on Hocks .com..a lot less and smaller bubbles. theses BDs are giving me huge bubbles, but I figured out how to dismiss them.

Please tell me if what I am doing is bad or wrong.

I draw air in syringe and evacuate it inside the bottle with the bottle upright and not the insulin to pressurize the bottle.

I turn bottle over and draw a bit more insulin than I need. I turn the bottle upright and pull the syringe. Then..here is the part

I turn the syringe needle up and draw a unit or two air into it. I flick the syringe sending the bubble to the top and push the plunger to the amount of insulin needed while watch a bit of insulin squirt out into the air.

Please comment

thanks

We all work out our different ways.

I am using the Lantus cartridges and when using it with my BD syringes I always get bubble in the first two draws, the third attempt the bubbles are gone.

The 'evacuate air' into the vial isn't done with the Lantus pen cartridges as they work on negative pressure. If a small bubble, I can 'thump' it to the top and expel but if there's more than one or a large one, I do basically the same thing you do. The difference is that I just draw a small amount of insulin over his dose, remove syringe, pull air into syringe and thump it if I need to 'consolidate' bubbles. I can then express the air out by dialing the plunger until it's gone and I see the first drop of insulin. At that point, if I'm short on the amount, I can reinsert needle and pull the remainder in - that draw won't have air as the needle is also full. Doing it this way, I never waste more than just a part of a unit.

Don't be delicate and just 'flick', 'thump' it. Hold the barrel hard, thump right at the plunger line where the bubble(s) are gathered.

Big hugs and scritches!

I'm new, but I've found the speed that you pull the plunger at really makes a difference for me

Are you using the vials or pens? With the vials, I draw the amount of air to match the amount of insulin I'm giving, then insert the needle in the vial, turn it upside down and expel the &slowly, do not remove the syringe and draw the insulin upside down with the syringe pointing up and pull it out. I use Walgreens syringes and rarely have bubbles but if at that point I do have bubbles I hold syringe upright and flick under the bubble & it usually floats to the top and another flick will get rid of it.
