I am very new and wanted to hear from anyone in Australia as to what blood glucose monitors are recommended for home testing. I have read that metres that require a tiny amt of blood, and can be held upside down etc. Also do the metres have a way of Pricking cats ear or do you have to use something else?

One of our other members made a list of foods and supplies available in Australia for diabetic kitties

You'll also need lancets (and if you prefer, a lancet device) to do the actual "poking"....Lancets are cheap....they're just little pieces of plastic that have a sharp needle point. A lot of us just "freehand" when we poke but some people prefer using the lancet device that holds the lancet and has a "spring loaded" mechanism to do the actual poking

Hi, I posted on your other condo in the welcome page
If you go into a chemist you can buy a glucometer to test Max and there is a little device in with the glucometer ....a lancing device that holds the lancets and you just hold it against the ear and press it.....hold a piece of cotton wool behind the ear to support it. You only need a drop of blood about the size of a pin head
I use an Abbott Optium glucometer and the test strips are about $30 to $35 online. When you buy a glucometer you need to check first how much the test strips are per 100. Don't buy them at the chemist...except for the first lot...as they are too expensive.....about $60/100 at the chemist.
It will take a few days of testing to get the hang of it. Here is a link which has tips on how to do it. Don't be discouraged if you don't get it first time....none of us did! Try and do the testing in the same spot in the house all the time so Max will get to know .....and always give him a treat. I give Sheba something while I am testing.
