Glucose reading 297

My cat has had normal glucose readings for the last 12 months (I quit testing in march, her glucose level was always between 75 - 85.

Today her glucose is 297. I don't even have insulin anymore, she was treated for high glucose levels for just a couple of weeks when she was first diagnosed. We changed her food, cleared up a urinary tract infection, then the glucose levels were never elevated again.

Should I get to the vet?

She drinks lots of water, more than our younger cat, but she always has, this isn't new.

We have lots of noise in the house, construction, and a day of a severe thunderstorms. Can those outside events cause the higher reading?
 
A question...what made you decide to test her? Is she acting abnormal in anyway?

And yes, stress can raise glucose levels. That means external stress (thunderstorms, construction) and internal stress caused by some health issue (UTI, bad teeth).

If she were my cat, I would check her BG a couple more times. If she is still high, take her to the vet to see if she has another UTI or maybe bad teeth. A fructosamine test might help since it is a measure of glucose for 3 weeks, so a couple of bad moments caused by external stress shouldn't affect it.
 
I don't know why I decided to test her! Trying to be responsible, I guess. Should I wait till morning to test? Or tonite?
 
Another possibility - could she have gotten into something with high carbs? Food left on the counter? Something like that??

If she were mine, I would test her at mealtime, before bed and again in the morning, then call the vet in the morning if she's still running high.
 
She might have swiped some cheese or something yummy off your plate when you weren't looking.

I'd do more tests to make sure. and doing them once a month is the norm for OTJ cats.

Ruling out other causes is also good- stress does raise the levels, to be sure.

Hopefully this is just a one-time thing.
 
Not a one time thing. Up to 381 this morning. She's at the vet right now, they want me to start her on insulin again WAAHHH. I want her to feel better, we'll get started, and I'll begin bombarding you with questions again! They want me to start with one unit tomorrow morning, then one tomorrow night, for a week, then do a curve. They were happy I'd do it at home, said it is more accurate than when they are stressed at the vet. Did BUN test, I'll know more about that when I pick her up in a little bit.

No UTI. I feel more confident this time, because I learned the techniques a year ago and I'm not having to go through that anxiety. Plus, last time this happened, she had a UTI and we were dealing with her diarrhea and lack of appetite.

I can't believe the peace of mind I have knowing I can test her glucose levels! But believe me, I'm not happy at all about this diagnosis.
