I have always used walgreen true track glucose meter. But, i have just bought walmarts relion. I tested my baby with both at the same time. True track read 268 and relion read 186. Which one do I believe? Very frustrating.

You'll want to take the candle icon down from your post. That's what we use when our kitty has passed away!!!

I use the ReliOn and it's a very reliable meter. You could always do a second check with both meters, using the same drop of blood, and see what you get. I trust the ReliOn meter, but have heard concerns about the reliability of the Walgreen brand.

ok will definately take the candle down. Sorry new to this. My cat named pain has been a diabetic for 5 or 6 years. A few days a go she crashed and rushed her to the vet. The vet said her level was 26! So, tomorrow I will start a curve on her. I have always used true trac but yesterday I bought the relion. I just tested her on the same ear. The true track said 268 but the relion said 186. That is a big difference.

To remove the candle, click on the 'edit' button in your original post - when it comes up, just click on something else such as 'none' or 'question'.

I use the Relion - have never had chance to check it against other meters...

I have used the WalMart ReliOn brand and like it. The ReliOn brand gets a good recommendation from Consumer Reports....while I have heard of issues with the drug store branded meters - the ones with "True" in their name.

Hmm I use the tru track though I've never tested her with another one.

I might pick up the relion from walmart when I run out of test strips, I just bought more yesterday

Let me know what you think of the relion. I wanna believe the lower number. I wonder if I take her to the vet and we test her at the same time what the results would be?

The test results you get in a vet's office are never accurate because the stress of the visit causes the cat's BG to rise. It could be a small rise in some cats or a very large rise in other cats. Once you're home testing your cat, there's really no reason for the vet to check the BG. You can do your own curves at home. If you have a vet visit scheduled, get a test right before you head out the door so you can tell the vet what the BG is when you get to their office.

Couple of thoughts...

First, I know several people have mentioned on this site that they have had problems with the True Track meters... apparently, they are notoriously unreliable.

Second, keep in mind that all meters are allowed a 20% margin of error variance in both directions. So a 268 is really a number somewhere between 214 and 322. A 186 is really a number between 149 and 223. So it is possible that BOTH meters are accurate, and that your cat's actual number is somewhere in the overlap of the two... between 214 and 223.

Big thanks to the FDA that!!

FWIW, I'd stick with the Relion. I know many people here have found it to be a great, reliable meter with cheap strips at both Walmart and ADW (check out the Arkray Glucocard 01... it's the generic version of the Relion Confirm).

Good luck!
