I am using the Freedom Free Style lite monitoring system for Baileys BG tests,I bought this make as it was highly rated ,the most important feature for me was the small amount of blood needed for testing.
I have come across comments on the forum about the unreliability of this monitor for cats, has anyone in the UK any recommendations for more reliable meters that need small amounts of blood? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Something by Bayer should work well.

I've PM'd a UK member to stop by in case she has more ideas.

Thankyou for trying to get me some information,it's very much appreciated,I presume that there are very few UK members.
Hope your day is peaceful.

Hi,

The Accucheck Aviva is quite popular in the UK these days, and is one of the ones that pharmacies generally have in stock.

But I've always used the One Touch Ultra. And I'm pretty sure I have a couple of spare (new) One Touch Ultra kits in the 'cat cupboard' if you'd like me to send you one to try (You'd be most welcome to have one  ) Test strips are usually half price on Ebay.

I'm not sure how much blood the One Touch Ultra or Accucheck Aviva use though, so would need to read the blurb online....

Hello Elizabeth, thankyou for replying, and your most generous offer of a meter,I will buy the accucheck as I have googled and it requires a small amount of blood, twice the amount of Freestyle but loosing confidence with FS as I have come across negative feedback for use on cats.
It is good to correspond with a fellow Uk'er,I think we must be few and far between on this amazing forum.
What do you think of Lillies KItchen? have been giving it to Bailey for the last few months, just a bit concerned about fat content for his Pancreatitis, and phosphorus content, don't want any additional problems with kidneys! have more than a lifetimes stress with his irrational bg numbers.
Hope you and yours have a peaceful day. Kind regards Diane

Per Dr Pierson of Cat Info, you can add 20-25% plain cooked meat, poultry, or fish to the canned food, mix well and portion out for feeding. This ups the protein content and drops a bit of the fat content.

Thank you BJMs mum,you are all so supportive, this last year has been a roller coaster of emotions, and at times frightening,The people on this forum have been amazing,it would not have
been possible to get this far without you all,as the vets in the UK know very little about diabetes, and nothing about Lantus!I am still struggling to try to figure out why Baileys bg numbers are so inconsistent, but with the pancreatitis running alongside the diabetes this is probably as good as it is going to get.once again many many thanks.

Diane

Noted BJM thanks, will include some roast chicken into Baileys diet, thanks for the suggestion.
