My apologies if this is a repeat but something I tried to find before was a thread with meters and accuracy comparisons.

Do understand that there will be a difference one meter to the next but for anyone else new to this "sugar dance" as it is referred to this might be an inexpensive meter to start off with.

ReliOn Confirm: off by -3 (Reading 243 and our vets meter read 246)

I too, use the Relion. However, this is a glucose meter calibrated for human use. So not just looking at the numbers but the overall range of sugar results is equally important. Although my monitor and the vets varied a fair piece...the lab panel was right on the mark. The vet was rather impressed. I am content with using the Relion and feel she is doing well. Good luck from jane and stewey

These numbers are essentially the same. In fact, being off by 3 is really very good considering the current FDA allowed +/- 20% variance for all meters! The allowed variance means that the lower the BG, the less the difference is. So, a reading of 40 is hypo if the number is really 32 or 48. On the other end, a reading of 400 is high even if it's 320 or 480. (hey guys, is my math right??)

As long as you use one meter consistently, what you are looking for is to see if it's safe to give insulin and trends showing how the insulin is working. The difference of 243 vs 246 means nothing. They are both shootable numbers.
