You can feed him as much as he wants. Always feed before giving the dose of insulin and then I would give snacks every couple of hours if he is very thin. But don’t feed for the 2 hours before you test to give the insulin as we don’t want the BG to be food influenced.
That’s great your mother will feed him when you are not there.

Always test before giving every dose of insulin to make sure it is safe to give the dose. And then test at least once during every cycle. If the BG is dropping , I would test again. If unsure, always post and ask for help.

I can only see the insulin being given at night on the SS. There are no entries in the AMPS column.
When did you start to hometest ?
The routine is to test the BG, feed the food, then if you are using Caninsulin you wait 1/2 hour before you give the dose of insulin.
Just to confirm you are still using Caninsulin and have not swapped to Lantus yet.

I didnt put the insulin on the spreadsheet because i thought you put there data when you test too.i started testing this month alone.i give him canin every 12 hours 3 units with a u100 syringe.we do that since mid January

The only time you withhold feeding him is when you test him first thing in the morning AMPS and first test at night PMPS test , feed , wait 30 minutes then feed him
Please keep your spreadsheet updated enter the 370 on your spreadsheet :cat:

I give him injections every 12 hours but mornings i cant test him. only weekends where i dont work unfortunately
Can't you at least test him first thing in the morning during the week?
Can you add you are testing with the Accu check meter to your signature
Do you know how to do that?

I am finding this thread very confusing. I’ve read through it and I think the problem is Micio is being given Caninsulin with a U 100 syringe.
Here is a conversion chart for using a U 40 Insulin with a U 100 syringe.
So if you are giving 3 units of Caninsulin with a U100 syringe and you want to swap to a U40 syringe you would give 1.25 units of the Caninsulin with the U40 syringe. I hope that answers your question. You can continue to use the U100 syringe if you want to but you need to be aware that the dose is different to the dose you would give with the U40 syringes. You need to put in the SSand the signature you are using U100 syringes if you decide to continue to use them. Does that all make sense?

So you were giving 3 units using the U-100 syringes and you told the vet you had these syringes and he told you they were ok to use with caninsulin

Do me a favor here is a conversion chart you said you are giving 3 units of caninsulin
using the U-100 syringes
Did the vet figure the dose like this
http://www.felinediabetes.com/insulin-conversions.htm

Diane, the vet gave me those.with the caninsulin. she also demonstrated me how to do the shot with that because before i was using a pen with the Lantus. I dont understand why i cant make myself understandable.i didnt get the syringes or the insulin alone. i was not familiar with diabetes nor syringes anyway.
Everything i did to my cat including the dry food and the type of insulins and the doses and the syringes where VETS PRESCRIPTION.
We started with a dose of 2 units and later we increased to 3 because of his high BS.

Hi Bron confusing isn't the word lol
Yes that's what she is using U-100 syringes giving caninsulin
First she was using lantus , then she switched to caninsulin
I actually never thought about conversion chart until now

Thank you. No i will do as you say here because i stopped listening to vets about this matter.
So as to understand, the dose of insulin will stay the same?I mean giving 1.25 units with u40 is like giving 3 units with u100?

Yes that is correct looking at the chart, if you are going to keep using the U-100 syringes
You need to put in the spreadsheet and the signature you are using U100 syringes if you decide to continue to use them. ,it's important you do that

no i will get the u40 and put it on them both when i start using them.

ps. Another thing i need to mention maybe it plays some role. My cat when he was around 5 years old started having epilepsy seizures. They kept coming spesific days and months because i kept a diary.Doc found nothing and he said thai it was idiopathic epilepsy and due to his high cholesterol he gave me the w/d Hills dry food. The reason i mention this is because when his diabetes started his epilespy disappeared all of the sudden.
I can't see how high cholesterol would cause seizures,I really doubt
I'm glad he hasn't had any more though :cat:

Yes that is correct. You are doing OK. Don’t worry. I can understand what you are saying. It must be hard having a small baby as well to look after.
So you cant have hypo without taking insulin
That is correct.
Keep asking us questions, we are happy to help you.

I know what you mean I have read many members have said that
I was lucky enough to find a wonderful vet
Tyler is now in remission thanks to the members here and giving me their advice
That makes me so happy.:bighug: For both of you.Its a very frustrating situation for both i think.I only hope mine to start gaining some weight soon . Because he was always like a little white ball and now like a VS model.in a bad way.
Do i need to give him more food now until he starts fluffing again or should i keep the instructions of the can? Also i have noticed he vommits every two days and always at night. Is it due to the transition from dry to wet food?

Including my husband and my cat i have 3 babies to look after lol
Yeah i will try to test him more especially at mornings.to have a more complete picture. At least the good thing is that his numbers are dropping and he looks more happy.

I made a research on the web and I'm TOTALLY unable to find the u-40 syringes with half markings, that Micio needs... :banghead::banghead:
But, as I understood after Bron's reply, she will continue with u-100 ,so this is very good! @Micio if you switch to Lantus, everything will be easier, I know nothing about caninsulin :p:p

Is it due to the transition from dry to wet food?
Yes, it can happen, as I know. Chnoudi had some vomits too, when I started wet food.

I will ask at the drug store Melita to see what is going on. If they have them i will get them. Thanks :)

Yes it is almost impossible to find the U40s with half units, no idea why.

Sorry Diane I didn't get the tag until the 3am one!

I think everything settled now?

What does he weigh now , what would be a good weight for him, was he a good weigh before diabetes?

Here is an example
All I can tell you is that
The rule thumb is about 20 calories per pound of ideal weight. If 14 lbs is a good weight for Micio he should be eating 280 calories a day
20x14=280
We feed our cats multiple times per day
The larger meals first thing in the morning, after that we'll feed maybe a tablespoon of wet food maybe around +2 and +4
Same goes for the night time feeding larger meal at PMPS ,then 2 smaller meals after that
We always add some water to each meal

I don't know how many calories are on the wet food cans you are feeding

Sorry but I can't tell you why he's vomiting

As you vet if he has U-40 syringes even if they don't have half unit markings

On your spreadsheet up top where the color coding are the one that says BG>500 should be the color black can you fix it ?

now i think he must be around 3.800 - 4 kg (8,8 pounds)
I started the Bozita wet food today. The box is 370gr.He has eaten the most of it and he wanted more. Is that normal?
His numbers were a little higher today. Maybe because the testing wasnt easy today at all.He didnt want it. But his pee are very good , normal.

What is a good weight for him though?
How many calories is the bozita wet food , what does it say on the can
Until his BG is regulated he's going to be more hungry

As Bron said

Members need to know this so they don't think you are using the wrong syringes
Do you know how to add this to your signature and spreadsheet's

When he was fat he was around 5 kg
I cant find the u40 syringes i have asked many drugstores.and vet too.
Im asking because since he is very thin if i should give him eat as much as he wants until he gains weight and then go by schedule

Another question because i have bruished his ears.what number i put to the needle for the test?i have it at 5.i cant have blood with one hit so i need to do 2 or 3 until blood comes out.

@Micio I'm sorry but I do not understand about weight in kg's
Nor do I understand when you say the bozita says 370 gr for calories

I would talk with Melita about this since you have been talking with her through messages

Your other question about I don't know what you mean when you said

Maybe @Melita & Chnoudi can answer these questions for you

@Melita & Chnoudi
