Silly question: prior to glucose testing should I be cleaning the site (in this case his ear) with alcohol prior to using the lancet? Since glucose testing is done so often is it possible they can develop some type of infection?

most of us use neosporin with pain relief on the spot on the ears.... afterwards....
sometimes before and after the prick....

it really helps before the prick to help the blood bead up instead of oozing into the hair. (especially on dark hair)

the alcohol isn't necessary .... and would likely dry out the skin...

Not a silly question at all!!

No, you don't really need to worry about it.....alcohol will not only dry out his skin, unless the skin is soaked in it and left for awhile, it really doesn't do anything anyway.....those alcohol prep pads nurses use on us humans before giving us a shot are really pretty useless.....it's done more for show than infection control
