glucosamine for diabetic cats

My vet suggested giving Melba glucosamine for joint pain and stiffness.

I started giving him the same brand I give my dog (it says for dogs and cats). After one week I noticed improvement in his mobility so I went to double check the dosage on their website and it says "It should not be given to pets with diabetes." http://www.drmaggie.ca/products_joint.html I checked the ingredients...

500 mg Glucosamine Hydrochloride (HCl)
400 mg Chondroitin Sulfate
50 mg Vitamin C
Natural chicken flavour

Is "glucos"amine too much like glucose?

arghhhh... anybody have any advice on how to handle this new bump in our road?


My vet suggested human tablets of glucosamine hydrochloride (300 mg)

I seen several comments on here about the benefits of cosequin.

Our thoughts here are that you treat concomitant conditions and adjust the insulin as needed.

According to my records, I gave Melba glucosamine from Sept. 27 to Oct. 2.

According to his spreadsheet his bg went up on the 28th and stayed high during that time.

hmmm... to give or not to give?

As long as I know how it affects his bg, I think the benefits just might outweigh the risks.

Track it a few more times and monitor the arthritis. If the arthritis improves, then despite any increase in glucose, I'd continue it. If you need to increase the insulin to compensate, then so be it.

I gave him glucosamine yesterday and today his bg shot up. He is lethargic. I think I am going to forget about the glucosamine.

You might try a bit of fish oil; it has some anti-inflammatory effects. } take it myself for arthritis, since I can't take NSAIDS.
