ACK. I think I may have just squirted all of Mr. Kink's first at-home dose of 1u of insulin all over his fur instead of inside him, but I'm not sure.

His BG PMPS was 419 - that's after receiving insulin at the vet today. Should I just try again, or not chance it? Heeeelp!

Also, he's thirsty all of a sudden. Right after dinner. He hasn't been drinking much water at all. In fact, I've been mixing water in with his FF to make sure he's getting some other than moisture from food. Am I needlessly worrying?

This is one of the hardest things. You can't be sure how much of the insulin may have gotten in. So you have to wait until the next shot. Everyone has a fur shot - even people who have been shooting for years.

Figures it would be my first one. And I'm home sick alone, and my sister usually helps me check his BG (which I just did on my own!) so I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself. I'll wait til the AM to give him his next shot. Thank you so much for responding, Sue.

I was actually a little worried about wanting to monitor his BG late into the night, but since I'm sick, I really need to get to bed.

Sounds like tomorrow is a better day to start fresh. (just pretend you hadn't gotten the insulin yet)
Get some sleep and begin again tomorrow morning.

Will do. ;-)

Oh, AND I dropped the first shot and bent the needle. Starting fresh tomorrow sounds like a GREAT idea, haha. I am also going to start his chart over since I started it before he was on insulin.

Tomorrow is a new day. It gets better with time.
He is probably drinking a lot because of his higher numbers. With time he will drink less. Keep mixing water in his food.

Keep his SS just date it or note it when you started Lantus. You can highlight it or use a bigger font or font color. You don't have to start all over.

Best wishes for tomorrows am shot. ;-)
