I increased Riley's dose this morning to 3 units. He seems to be holding steady at the .25 increases. He's gone from hi to 500's to 400's to some 300's. I am home today so I can test him to see where he goes. I think if I wouldn't have missed his shot last night his numbers would have been better. He reminded me by sitting quietly by my feet and just looking up at me. I was so tired from shoveling 30 plus inches of snow off the first story roof and part of another roof and wondering what to do about the dangerous second story roof, I lost track of time. We've been blasted here for five straight days with lake effect snow.
So this morning when he was back up in the 500's, I increased. The question I have is why does he look so disoriented about an hour after his shot? This usually happens when I increase but I've noticed it at other times too. The 2.75 dose is the closest I've seen to him acting normal. No howling, interacting a little with the other cats, walking around, wanting to be held. Although I increased to 3, should I have waited? The pattern I have been seeing is once his body gets used to a dose and initially his numbers come down, once he acclimates his numbers start rising again. This seems to be a consistent pattern so I guess I was concerned that if I didn't raise the dose the pattern might repeat and I want him in low numbers because I am determined to get him off insulin altogether if his pancreas starts working again. As I look at other cats ss, I feel lucky that Riley's numbers look more even....not all over the board. This gives me hope he has turned the corner. Also, I have noticed the amount of meds other cats are taking plus stuff like Miralax and I thank the good Lord that I found Young Again which seems to be the answer to Riley's constipation. Because my vet had never heard of Young Again, she had me remove it, and within three days Riley was having issues and dragging his butt across the floor trying to get the poop out. Pumpkin also helped him, but when I resumed feeding Young Again, his constipation was gone.
Now, I need to work out the litter issue. Is there something that works that helps with pieces of litter and litter footprints being left on the floor. I am mixing The World's Best Cat Litter in with the Fresh Step Scoop but it hasn't completely solved the tracking issue yet although it has solved the problem of washing the crusty litter out from between his back toes.
Also, does anybody have an easy solution to get the Zobaline down other than pilling or mixing into the food. Do those pill pockets work? How is the carb content in those? Riley is so crafty that he can hold the Zobaline until we aren't looking and then he spits it out!
I am encouraged. He is looking better, eating normally, peeing normally. He still has the stares and can't jump up but at least things are looking up.
Thanks again for your advice and encouragement.
